Re: Chevy Beretta FF

Well that was a shock. Sure didn't see that coming! Looks like you still have the ability to work with fiberglass. What happened? Did you drop it and make some holes? Yeah, it's been awhile since I've worked with the stuff, so there was some air within the layers. I sanded them out, some of them, a...

Re: Chevy Beretta FF

YES! I'm a little rusty but I managed to make an entire hood from scratch. There were a few air bubbles that I sanded out and I still need to patch 'em and put some reinforcement underneath. Best part? This thing only weighs 5 lbs so far versus the 40 lbs the original steel one weighed. I still got ...

Re: Chevy Beretta FF

^^ It' doesn't actually produce any down force. It's a roof vane that should actually direct airflow downward in theory or just be purely cosmetic lol. I did take a few semesters in mechanical engineering but never pursued it. The Beretta rear profile is not very good in terms of basic aerodynamics ...

Re: Chevy Beretta FF

I’ve finished kicking the rear stiffness up a notch by installing 2 sway bars in back! https://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--YyRFhg_Z--/c_scale,fl_progressive,q_80,w_800/rnamq2afbkvegwz9y45r.jpg I've had a pre '95 bolt-on internal rear sway bar lying around that I picked up awhile bac...

Re: Chevy Beretta FF

^^^Thanks! yeah, it definitely has changed throughout the years but in a sense it changes as I change. One day, I hope to just walk away and say "I'm done, there's nothing more I want or need to do with her".... one day hopefully. Well 1988GTU, I've begun converting the rear quarters to Le...

Re: Chevy Beretta FF

bumper frame and bumper horns are hefty. What's preventing an aluminum bumper frame and direct mounting to chassis deleting the bumper horns? Lexan the doors and also do the coupe sides lexan as well. Steering wheel with that air bag and dash pad air bag are not weight friendly. 2nd gen Cavalier z2...

Re: Chevy Beretta FF

Be careful if you run any kind of roll bar or cage in the street. The cage becomes life threatening if you are not wearing a helmet. A dude in nastyz28 got killed by his cage when he got t boned on a Sunday drive. For sure, rollcages definitely are meant to be used in conjunction with a helmet and ...

Re: Chevy Beretta FF

I have an aluminum full race seat if interested..... I think I want to keep this build more on the streetable club racer type versus a full blown caged track only setup so I may have to pass but thanks! I'm seriously considering a 4 point rollcage which is livable. I don't want to put any more than...

Re: Chevy Beretta FF

Project: Lightweight goes on. I managed to finish stripping out the interior. Since I'm putting both seats back in, the weight savings from today is 55 lbs. The total so far stands at 158.5 lbs. http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y470/SkyMayFall1/DSC02887_zpshzlvrkgd.jpg Approx. weight saved in lbs...

Re: Chevy Beretta FF

That A/C compressor is still there. It's going to get pulled but I'm in no rush since it's like a given lol. I'm also going to put in a smaller lightweight battery. So today I focused on the stock hood. My hood (which already had the sound insulation stripped) weighs in at 40lbs. That's heavy and I ...

Re: Chevy Beretta FF

Yeah, eventually the car will get some more bracing when I get a rollcage in there. I don't know how many points I want yet but we'll see and the rear stut brace is still in the cards. Today,I decided to focus on changing out some of the mechanical bits. The OEM intake was swapped over to a lighter ...

Re: Chevy Beretta FF

Hahaha, slowly but surely this thing is becoming a DD to a weekend car to eventually a track only car! The weather is still pretty crummy but I managed to strip another 39.5 lbs from it. The total stripped right now is 92.5 lbs. Still a lot more to go. http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y470/SkyMay...

Re: Chevy Beretta FF

It was like 30 degrees today and i felt like that was a good enough temp to start prepping the car for autocross this year. The 2.2L is far from an ideal race motor but my goal is to squeeze the most overall performance I can from this chassis and motor combo before I hit its limit. From there I wil...
