What the hell are you doing in TN now?

Re: AC compressor seized.

Problem solved. Hit the JY today, picked up a new looking AC compressor out of a 96 grand am. Newer styles have the hose inlet on the top, so I had to make sure it was a 96 model year. Checked it out once the belt was off prior to pulling the compressor and the pulley was MUCH tighter and spun way n...

Re: magnets under the oil pan or trans

Now rather than have a magnet IN your pan, would it still be effective outside the pan attached to the bottom? It would be a hell of a lot easier to clean. Just pop off the magnet prior to your oil change and any metal it collected inside the pan would then drain out with your oil change. You wouldn...

Re: AC compressor seized.

Yeah its the giant bracket that it touches, and just barely. I considered grinding the bracket to make it work, but realistically its a temporary solution anyway. I dont want to start grinding parts for something that isnt ideal or permanent. So, tomorrow I'll just grab a JY compressor, return the b...

Re: AC compressor seized.

Its more for shipping from rockauto than it is for the actual part. Im fine with a JY compressor. I've got refrigerant in the garage already too, which will make things easy. I intend to do a ton of ice fishing in January and February so its probably best that I use the lifted 4x4 instead of the low...

Re: AC compressor seized.

Steph you should be shot too. Well, this project resulted in failure. The belt when routed differently around the waterpump will contact the upper mount. Just barely, but it does. And I'd rather not tear into a brand new belt, even if its only 1/8". So, I pulled the "new" belt out and...

Re: AC compressor seized.

Whoever engineered the upper passenger side motor mount needs to be shot. Got the old belt out, FINALLY. I`ll go back out and continue freezing my butt off in a bit. I really really hope the belt works. What a pain in the rear.

Re: AC compressor seized.

Sweet, thanks. I dont expect to have any cooling issues. If anything, all I`d expect would be some belt squeal if I hit a big enough puddle to get the belt wet. But even that is doubtful. And from Jon`s pic it looks like I wont have any issues running the smaller belt with the AC compressor still in...

Re: AC compressor seized.

You can use a shorter belt, however I am not sure if it will clear with the compressor still in place. See if you have a clear line of site from the water pump pulley to the crank pulley. I have the part number for the correct short belt I used on my 3400 for like 5 years. I'll post it if you want ...

Re: AC compressor seized.

Your defrost will not be as effective without the AC. It is used to pull moisture out of the air when the defrost is on. Yeah Im aware of that, but its dry as hell here anyway, so Im not too worried. Eventually I`ll replace the compressor. I just dont feel like it right now. I`ll price a new one ou...

Re: AC compressor seized.

Yeah I dont want to completely delete the AC. I just dont want to screw with it until later on. Likely spring time.

I`ll pull the belt tomorrow and hit up the parts store and see what I can find.

AC compressor seized.

Well, looks like my air conditioning compressor just seized up on the Z26. Started making a god awful noise and now smells like burning rubber. Popped the hood and theres little puffs of smoke coming from the AC compressor. I assume its melting the belt. Now, its freezing cold here and I dont really...

Pretty much finished the hardware and lost all motivation. Sold it to Travis and he has been hauling ass in it.

Im Back ;)

You read it. Im back, sorta. I even bought another Beretta today. Lol. But its just for a winter beater. 96 BRM Z26 off Mike (4DoorGTZ). Previously 3400 swapped US car. Eibachs, CAI, optima red top, etc. Just going to use it as a commuter when the Jeep needs work. I dont intend to do anything other ...
