Check your intake for fuel. You could have a bad fuel pressure regulator. The smelling fuel part makes me wonder.

at idle it's fairly normal to move a little bit. if it's moving a lot it probably needs to be replaced.

If you're just looking to go for stock replacement i like the strut assembly wit new spring, mount and bushings already together. Easier to replace and cheaper than buying all the things separately. It is more expensive than buying the strut by itself though.

i wonder if the belt is out of alignment somewhere. I had the UDP on my car for 100k+ miles with no belt issues.

Make sure your tensioner is good and i'd look maybe the alternator is out of alignment. We had to replace the alternator bracket on the engine because Andy broke the original one.

Not all 3100 alternators will work. W body alternators have a different connector. L body's might be the same a J and N bodys though. Not sure.
