flat paint jobs? opinions

the terms "murdered out" and "storm troopin" come to mind. what do you guys think about the flat paint jobs?

Matte or "satin" black looks good, when the car is smoothed out, no extra body moldings, creases filled in. Still one of my favorite looks, but the rest of the car has to support it!

frustration with the "gloss" diy job i have been doing is making me lean toward flat/satin. it seems to be fairly forgiving and easier to pull off. i learned a bit when i did my jeep flat black. the gloss is getting to be more work than its worth.

is yours satin?

Satin/flat is tough. We did my dad's 63 Impala and it looked tits for a little while, but it was impossible to maintain. Ended up spraying it twice in 3 years, and it needed it again... This wasn't cheap stuff either...it was DP90 epoxy from a paint gun.

Nope, mine's not satin. It's just a half spray painted white, lol. Infamous GM peeling white paint haunts me in my dreams.

Flatt or semi really only looks good if the car supports the look. I doubt it will look all that great on a beretta, to be honest. The flatter and less lines it has to work with, the better the overall effect, if you are consistent with it me thinks.

Actually yes, but I can't find the picture. There was a Porsche (I think, may have been something that looked like one) that was done up with a satin finish. Had lots of extras, wider body fender lips that looked like they were bolted on, some graphite detailing. Lots of money and it was all done by some famous body guy. Sharp looking, but certainly wasn't glossy. I bet it won plenty of awards though. LOL

That's only if the Judges are impressed by shiny things... aka very shallow minded. Kinda sad to think a car would win trophies if it was just REALLY clean and shiny and another person gets complete disregard to tons more work because he opted for a matte finish on his paint.

Flat painted cars are more in the category or utilitarian...rat rod.

Polished metals and Shiny paint do well. Shine shows flaws. Shine without flaw...a winner.

I don't know the exact answer...but I am sure none of the top cars for Riddler have been anything other than gloss painted(excluding contrast accents)


Next reason.
Ok, Cars at dealer. When was the last time you saw a NEW car or truck for sale in flat paint other than military and special purpose. A Shiny car sells. Add sparkle and flake to paint....that sells too.

That SL65 looks very good with bulging wheelbases aggressive wheels...its very metal. Very manly.

Not digging the Rolls....looks like something i would see done to a Chrysler 300.

I see your point to popularity. But I still like the multi-stage paints.

so do most as well as I... but I was simply trying to point out that shiny is not always the winner anymore. Flat can be done very well if done right.
