fucked up steering knuckle thread - HELP

Post by michi »

Hey guys, i swapped in new brake pads in my car and made everything nice and cleaned everything. When i bolted the calipers back in i had the problem that one bolt wont get bolted in so i looked and i saw that the thread is fucked up so i cant bolt my caliper back in place... OMG.

I am already about to get another steering knuckle but does anyone got some ideas to fix that? I already tried to re-thread but wont work since the hole is a little bit bigger now :(

Buy a tap that size and run it through the hole, it will clear out and reform the tapped hole

You may be able to tap it bigger then heli-coil it, but I wouldn't!

Yeah but if the hole is messed up you drill it out to the new size and re-tap it over sized then coil it back down to original... typically it get's all the crap out and leaves you will good strong threads. I did my cylinder heads and I don't regret it in the least.

RockAuto has the dorman variety. You can also get official GM ones at the dealer.
