Getting new Lowering Springs... Now what Struts/Shocks?

Want some new struts? What brand springs to buy? How much camber to run? What brake pads? What's the best setup for your situation....

Getting new Lowering Springs... Now what Struts/Shocks?

Post by Ricersica »

Hello, I just purchased some lowering springs for my 1996 Z26 Beretta.. The car is old and I am slowly restoring it, but it needs new struts/shocks anyways...
Since I am getting better springs what would be the best performance replacement strut/shock set out there?

Thanks!!
Ian

Not much to choose from. KYB used to be the stiffest option but I think their quality has dropped. SACHS is another good quality brand but I don't know how well they work when installed with lowering springs.

I picked up AC Delco FE3 struts off of RockAuto, and compared them against the stiffness of the KYB's and Gabriel Ultra's, and they did seem more stiff than both. Much more stiff than the Gabriels for sure! The FE3 struts do have a different travel rate, which is why I chose them as well.

For the rears, KYB Gas-A-Just's tend to be the most common option and are a monotube shock as well.

Hope this helps!

Negative. On RWD cars, that's more the norm, but with a MacPherson strut, you only need the spring to lower the ride height.
