3100 timing chain replace?
3100 timing chain replace?
Should the timing chain be replaced on the 3100 after so many miles?
has anyone had one break on them? I have a '95 base that runs fine, but sure would hate to lose the engine over a $50 dollar part. How much hassle is it to change?

3100 timing chain replace?
I haven't heard of one breaking (at least recently).
I know lots of people that have driven well past 200K with stock timing chains.
In order to replace it, you have to remove the timing cover (by first removing the PS pump, alternator, engine bracket, alternator bracket, crank pulley, and probably the belt tensioner). Then go about your business with the chain.
Let me put it this way: it's not an item to worry about, unlike timing BELTS.

3100 timing chain replace?
I got 215k on a stock chain and IIRC it was perfectly fine when I pulled it, ever so slightly stretched but nothing major.

I have actually had one break - it broke at 208K miles and on the freeway of all places. Bent two valves and cracked the block. IMO changing this every 100K is cheap insurance for those of us that drive them that much. Changing it isn't bad - kinda time consuming for the stuff that needs to come off.

Bump - if i super charge my 94 gt 3.1 with 155k on it i would assume than that i should change the chain?
