282 Rebuild

Post by Dyceman »

Desperately looking for a good rebuilt kit for a 1990 282 Muncie or HM 282, all the ones I have found are gears seals and bushings nothing else, are there any complete with shifting forks and all included.

Also as I am rebuilding, how do I understand gear ratios for faster 1/4 mile and is there anything I can do to beef it up a bit. Maybe make it a bit stronger if that is possible.

I have heard good and bad of the 282, i have had three and this is the only one I have ever seen messed up. It has 3rd and 4th but nothing else and sways side to side like neutral when in third and moving.

Thank you in advance for all the help and suggestions this amazing group is giving me.

THIS GROUP ROCKS!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately your looking for a unicorn... There are no "full" kits to my knowledge anymore so you'll have to work with used parts that you can find online, or from another yard transmission.

Mantrans on eBay has some stuff. But if you want everything you'd have to get one of those export quad 4 minivan transmissions from eBay and pirate it.
