EEEK... thats probably the worst spot for creating a water leak... I did mine on the vertical part of the firewall, pretty much right where the clutch pedal would go on a 5-speed... Way easier to seal that hole up.

I had my battery cables go thru right there. I never once had a problem with leaks. I used grommets and seam sealer and never once had an issue. I think its the smartest place to run them since the rest of the wires are there, it makes it neat and tidy and you dont have to worry about it looking messy when you have wires coming out where they usually arent supposed to lol
