Time delay between searches

Post by 1988GTU »

Is the search feature and user posting/starting thread time sharing the same code?

I've often wondered why searching requires waiting "x" amount of time between searches. Waiting to search doesn't sharpen users internet proficiency and influences bad habits of information redundancy.

My suggestion-question is, can that be reduced or eliminated so searching can be less restricted?

All I know is the search wait time is there for the sheer fact to reduce hits on the server... Bots can use that search function and reducing that time would just increase load on the server. Most forums I'm on there is a search wait time as well so we aren't the only ones who do it.

This was also my complaint, but it was more so a user issue apparently.

Using Google is an excellent work around.

query this

site:beretta.net whatever you're looking for

I can see that point of view & from what I know of the old forum ways it might not have changed much for coding in this aspect. If it was possible, would having settings for validated users versus guest/non established users be even a possibility? Again, hoping technology has made things easier, but chances are not likely.

I have often wondered the same thing. If you get more than a page of results, upon navigating to the second page it says: 'Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. Please try again in a few minutes.'

I usually just search via search engine as mentioned above these days, if I can't refine my search well enough via the forum.

Being a mod or admin you shouldn't be search blocked like us minions.

I've seen this on another site:"you must wait 10 seconds before you search again"
More or less it's the same here.

In some ways it doesnt really bother me to wait, but I would hope that it doesn't get under the skin of others when a thread is started and it's already been discussed.

A delay between searches I can completely understand that's lessening the load on the server from queries... but stopping you from going to page two and making you wait, that's obnoxious...

I've notified Will about this but I don't know what can be done.
