NO accessory drive on the engine?

Electric or manual steering.

Electric fans.

Vintage Air trunk mount.

Alternator run off the drive shaft, street rod style.

I'm thinking this can all work,

I'm just saying I do have an idea of what it would take for the 6spd and it's less than you think. And in a Beretta I bet you could hit 25mpg+ maybe even 30...they are not the overweight bricks that the new cars are.

Why delete the accessory drive, is it that close to the core support? Seems like it would add a lot of complication. Elec steering is nothing new these days, but an elec AC compressor? And the water pump still needs to be driven...the elec ones are just as big as the belt driven one unless you can figure out a remote setup.

There is actually lots of room between the engine and rad.

The engine sits pretty far back and very close to the firewall.

Electric water pumps on an LS is no big deal.

I think Barry is keeping the firewall mounted rack, but not on mine.

I tend to agree with Woody here, there is no need to make things more complicated than they need to be by deleting the acc drive. Plus having everything electric puts a large drain on the charging system - and if the alternator is run off the driveshaft that means its only charging if you are actually moving - I could see this presenting a problem.

If there is room, keep as much stuff up there as you can. I would still look into an electric water pump - that is always nice to have for the track.

If you're going to put a lot of street miles on it and absolute max HP is not the #1 priority, you might want to keep it simple and forget the elec water pump. I have one on my Camaro and it stranded me once. You can keep a spare motor for roadside repairs but it is a mess.

The accessory drive kits for this engine are absolutely ridiculous in price!

The drive shaft driven alternator has been used for years on Street Rods and works just fine.

And an 18 volt battery will handle everything just fine.

But just throwing things out before I start burning up my VISA!

No V8! No auto trans! Do you really need 500+HP?
3.6L used in new Camaros has 300+ HP, and with the 6 speed they are rated at 30 MPG highway.
Just a thought, but I like where you're going with the LS motor. I have no idea how reliable the 3.6L is, or what kind of aftermarket they have. I can't wait to see this thing! Best Beretta project ever!

Yeah, they work fine in a car that was made in the 30s, whose electrical demands consist of a starter and an maybe an AM radio!

This is not a good idea on a car that is going to be computer controlled - every time you came to a stop the bloody engine light would come on! And you cannot run an 18volt battery, it would fry the PCM - unless I missed the part where you said this thing was going to be carbureted? Regardless, you still need some kind of transmission controller and it would NOT be happy with 18 volts.

Don't cheap out on this, if the accessory drives are that much go to a junkyard and rape a late model chevy pickup for heavens sake.
