Recent Purchase: 1993 Garnet Quad4 GTZ

Post by DanteGTZ »

You may have already seen it on FB, but for those that don't use FB, I figured I'd post it here.

This past weekend, I flew up to Winnipeg, MB, Canada and picked up this 1993 GTZ. Another member found it on Kijiji.com at the first of June. I flew up, and drove it all the way back to Tennessee. I learned a lot about car importation during the process - When bringing a CA car to the US, you have to have some specific documentation just to get it over the border - There, they give you the paperwork you'll need to register it for the US and get a title. Pretty straight forward process, just takes some time.

Anyway - Here it is. It's got ~141,000kms on it (or ~88,000 miles) and runs great. It has NO rust at all. Interestingly enough, it spent all of its life in Canada, and spent the first 19 years of its life in St. Catharines, Ontario. Based on mileage and condition, it was most certainly stored during winters.

The car is quite rare due to the color/year. In 1993, there were only 621 Quad4 powered GTZs built. This car is one of only *50* 1993 Garnet GTZs made. I have never seen another Quad4 powered 93 Garnet to date.

Plans are just to keep her mostly stock - Fix some minor suspension and paint issues and keep it forever. I don't thnk this car, or my other 93 Quasar GTZ are going anywhere, ever. ;)

Oh how I wish my paint still looked like that in my Zed. A couple storms rolled through and kidnapped some clear coat on its way through.

This car has some clear coat issues on the driver's side door - Oddly enough, it's the only paint that isn't OEM - The original owner told me that the car was scratched on the driver's door in 1996 and the peeling clear was from the repaint of the door.

'93 wasn't a bad year for paint/clearcoat for GM.

They had pretty well figured out the issue. Although spoilers and GFX were always an issue.

My '91 however was a JOKE!

I felt I had to sweep up every time I stopped into the coin wash.

The paint was coming off in sheets, LOL!

But that is one sweet car!!

What really drew me to this particular car was the color - There were only 50 garnet Quad GTZs built in 1993. Plus, the relatively low mileage made it a must have for me.

Too much... LOL! But - It is relateively rare, low mileage, rust free and I bought it was a spare 3.94 trans, axles, jack shaft, intake, TB, IDI/coils, A/C compressor, fuel rail/injectors, etc. I made out OK with it. If I can just find a decent 93+ gray dashboard, I'll be set!

You ought to see the paint on the '94 Z26 I just bought. Spoiler is really bad, paint on the hood is peeling, and surface rust on the roof lol

Thanks. The Mach1 lip has grown on me.

Here's a shot from the last time we had it on The Dragon...
