17K mile GTZ restoration has begun.

Post by NJ93TY »

2 years ago I bought a low mileage 90GTZ. Rust free, fairly clean but some neglect. I recently got my Typhoon moved, got the GTZ into a heated garage, talked to my paint guy and he gave me the green light. I have started to tear it apart so I figured I would post some pics. I will post more pics as I make progress. The car is 8 miles from my house and the paint guy is 1 mile. Worked out fairly well. The car will get painted sometime between Jan-Mar so I have plenty of time to prep it. It will stay the same color along with some new wheels. The lights are out and the bumpers and glass will come out in the next 2 weeks or so. I also have to find a new R/S door skin and possibly a new hood.

More pics please! Well sure crazy low mileage, but appears to have sat outside for a while.
Good choice of wheels. Nothing beats clean 5 spokes.

Clean looking 5-spokes...nice & simple. I like it.

I've been contemplating another 5-spoke replacement for what I have but I just can't find a good one to run... I mean what I have compliments my car very well right now so it's hard to veer far from that. Always been a fan of 5-spokes on these cars too so I think your choice will compliment it nicely.

Thanks for the compliments guys! Yes the car did sit outside for a few months before I bought it in a few months after I bought it, I kept in storage for the winter but regardless it is rust free. I washed it one time when I brought it home. And I have only put 200 miles on it since I purchased it. I have always loved the five spoke wheels, it's a simple design and looks awesome. I'm not even sure if they will fit, I know the offset of 35 is correct but I think they may be too wide if that's the case I will have them narrowed. There will be no shortcuts with his car, it will get done right. I'll be working on it again this week and I will post more pictures

Made some more progress today, got the hood, fenders and some misc front end stuff apart. All of the plastic stuff is in very good shape and I have been using Mothers "Back to Black" on it. This stuff works very well. Here are some pics of some of the plastic that I did already, usually starts off like this.

Got some more work done on the GTZ this past few days. Glass has all been removed, I swapped out the pass side door and got the fenders back on. Rear decklid, inner plastic fenders, seatbelts are out. I have been collecting NOS parts for a while now and I am just about done. I have new lights, moldings, screws, mirrors, inner fenders, bumper supports front bumper cover, lower air deflector, and other misc stuff.
