So while I wait on my subframes to arrive and the oil pan is off for a new gasket, decided to check out the rod bearings. I'm glad I did too. Thank God the crank wasn't affected, and also thankful for aluminum beatings... But it makes me wonder what shape the main bearings are in. There wasn't any metal in the oil, I think it was from one of the first times the engine failed due to the idiot I had put it together.
I also ordered new side pan bolts. I went with the ARP's, unnecessary, but I like how the head on the bolt is longer and being hardened lowers the possibility of rounding them off like I did a couple of the factory ones.

Thankyou sir! I like to use VHT caliper paint on suspension parts, seems to hold up pretty well and coats real evenly with fast dry time. And yea, #3 was pretty rough, lol. The bearings were actually crushed and just fell right out. Fortunately, no crank scarring and the new bearings went in properly.

I'm shocked that the crank was not damaged. Man that VHT is some nice stuff!

VHT is awesome! I used same the paint but black on my upper and lower intake manifolds.

You didn't check the clearance on the bearings did you? That matters more than how they fit really.

I'll grab some plastigauge from work and check them out, I probably should do that...
I did get some new subframes finally too! I'll be working on them today since it's supposed to be in the 60's again.

x2-It's good advice to check clearance.
Also, those bearings look like aluminum backed babbitt. Heavy duty bearings are copper backed babbitt.
I once built an engine using the aluminum backed bearings that came with the re-ground crank kit.
They failed at high RPM, around 7K as I recall. I then got a used full size crank and used
copper backed Babbitt and had no problems up to 7800 rpm.
