My amp wire follows my brake lines back and goes up into the trunk. I didn't feel like having to route it in the cabin again.

Depends on your car and your setup for the best routing/option.
For an automatic, I would do what CLIFF did and run it through the grommet for the shift cable. You could also use one of the clutch pedal bolt openings (you'll have to drill it out).
For a 5spd, you could do the same for that area if using 8 gauge, but I don't think you could go much bigger than that due to space constrictions and the fact that you have 2 cables in that grommet instead of 1 like the automatics.
I relocated my battery to the trunk years ago; I have a 0 gauge wire going through my firewall near the clutch pedal (just above it I believe).

I agree with Eric on this one. Very nice car and have always thought so. Very glad you finally got it tuned a couple years back so you would start driving it again.

It is an auto so the shift cable grommet will work great. Thanks to you Geoff and Cliff. 3X00, I like your route. My brake lines need to be replaced sometime so that is going to be out. Then there is the crazy fear of salt and tearing it up in the rear with things coming off the front tire.
Where/ how did you guys mount the amp? As with me I sure you wanted to keep trunk space. The amp in my 90GT was mounted on the spare tire cover(not really the best idea). The subs at the time were free air so no mounting problem there. Now I have a box for a 10, so there is another thing I'm not sure of.

Mine were originally on the back of the seat.
Now I'm rolling with no spare and the amps reside the in the spare tire well.
If I could do it over, make a "shelf" for the amps and put them under the package shelf between the rear speakers.

This is how I have it on my GT, not so much a shelf but a couple of brackets suspending it. My sub/6x9 amp does that now with a fully loaded trunk... bass dropped out several times on and off on the way to Denver.
I thought about putting some computer cooling fans in there to blow across the heatsinks... not sure if that would help much though.

Mine are still screwed to the back of the seat... I'm actually contemplating switching out my 10" subs for two good pairs of component speakers 4x6 and 6x9... I think that swap will give me enough bass and also give me my whole trunk back. I would end up ditching the one 400 watt amp that i have for the subs and keep just the 4 channel amp.

3X00 there are some nice 6x9's out there. Look around and don't fear an "off" brand. These days 6.5 woffers are better than ever(CDT and American Bass). I would think one would fit between the 6x9's. Just need to find a free air. DIY audio fourm is a great info site.

Tiffany's car had subs (in her Sube) but we never hooked them up in the Cruze and it's nice to have all that trunk space back. I think Jon has the right idea.
