^^Yeah, I felt the same way... Then I kept reading, and he says he'll have it done by BFest! I'm not sure my Z will be all done by then, and I won't be able to make it to BFest anyway. Now I definitely don't feel better.

The car is looking great. And that IC looks mean sitting in there as it is, too. Do you already have your intake piping all planned-out, or are you still working on how to run it?

New aluminum bent support rods for the intercooler?

Boost cooling upgrades suck! Ask me how I know.

I have a decent idea with the piping - did a rough mockup last weekend. Waiting on couplers to finalize it though. The cold side feed to the intercooler is going to feed through the triangular support bracket behind where the washer fluid tank used to be (I removed it years ago during my first attempt at turboing this car). The outlet for the intercooler will feed back up through the hole in the battery tray area and into the TB.

Craig, the brackets are made from the same material that I used on the other intercooler mockup years ago at my old house. Different mounting method, but same thought process.

Tonight’s accomplishments:

New radiator and lower hose installed
Painted and reinstalled intercooler and brackets
Installed adapters for Wilwood calipers to -3AN lines
Installed oil supply and oil drain fittings
Installed one -10 fitting on drain hose for mock-up tomorrow
Installed one -3AN fitting on supply hose for mock-up tomorrow
Cut and installed studs on exhaust side of turbo
Installed 2.5” 4 bolt to 3” V-band adapter on hot side
Clocked cold side
Installed oil supply fitting adapter on turbo
Painted exhaust housing

No pictures, I’m just getting it done!

Did learn that I’ll have to get a slim fan... joy.

Not a lot of progress last night (this morning really), but stuff that needed to be done.

Finished wrapping wiring harnesses with heat shield tape
Painted crossover to match rest of exhaust manifolds
Installed crossover for probably the last time
Rerouted some wiring under the crossover to eliminate contact areas
Mounted turbo again to test fit supply and return lines
Mounted wastegate
Started mock-up of intercooler piping since my 3”-2.5” offset couplers cane in yesterday, but decided not to disturb the upstairs guest (father-in-law) at 3am...
Secured wiring harness to body

More updates tonight/tomorrow morning, will possibly have pictures.

Been busting ass on house projects in preparation for selling it this week so not as much progress last night as I would have liked.

Mounted master cylinder, need to bend and reflare 3 lines
Finished the oil supply line and installed

...I was thinking just about the same thing... Very clean install thusfar, somehow your bay makes it look simple. Yep, I like the look of that intercooler... I can't tell where your waste-gate's dump-pipe is (or will be) going though. Where did you get the FPR, I don't recall ever seeing one like that before?

Bought this bead roller from Eastwood, works pretty well. Gotta keep a hand on the pipe though to keep it rolling straight so your start bead and end bead line up (oops).

Finished up what I could of the intercooler plumbing; the rest needed to be modified before I could do anything else (needed a BOV flange welded on one piece and screwed up a bend for the intercooler feed from the turbo outlet).

Image

I’ll probably trim the hole where the intercooler piping is coming and going. A little tight for my tastes.

Image

And finally, off to the fabricator to get the downpipe (with two O2 bungs), exhaust, remaining intercooler pipes, and a dump tube made up while I’m in China for work offer the next week.

I guess it does, but I’ll redo this setup in a couple years when I rebuild the engine with forged parts.

I’ll also be redoing at least the crossover portion during this time; I’m not super happy with how the routing has gone thus far. Thinking about moving the turbo closer to the radiator and battery tray area. This should allow more flexibility in routing the downpipe closer to the crossover, in which will also open up intercooler plumbing options.

The FPR is an adjustable one from Casper’s that I’ve had since like 2001 lol.

The dump tube on this setup will be going down in front of the trans; on the next setup I will have the space to replumb it back into the downpipe.

That is how I was going to run the 3.4 DOHC Z-26's dump pipe, because I didn't think I could get a 1.5" pipe under the turbo without hitting the external slave cylinder (oh yeah, add 'external clutch slave to the list of crap I've fit in my engine bay along with the LQ1  ). I got a super-tight 2-inch radius pipe (by mistakes -one mistake was mine, the other mistake was by the supplier) that manages to clear the T-4 flange, and my turbo sits far enough forward that this tight pipe clears the shift-linkage on the transmission too. From what I've read, Porsche used to run open dump-pipes stock, for a very long time, so that could actually be an option too, I just wonder how it would sound on our cars -probably like a bad exhaust-leak.

Have a good, safe trip.
