Check out Pro Plating in Brillion. It's about an hour away from you on hwy 10. Those guys do killer work.

The place I sent mine to in Rochester does great work as long as you don't mind waiting a goddam month. haha

I'll be going with a local CT place... one week turn around and that was the week we had a blizzard in October 2011 and most places out in Hartford didn't even have power.

Honestly, not sure. If you left it on I doubt it would really hurt anything. I'm hoping to get this car back together and running in the next couple weeks.
