Yeah, he said the pic was from last summer.

So, today, I headed to my shop, parked the GTZ in front of it, and unloaded a few things and I notice a puddle under the middle of the car. Now , JUST having got the car back from SLC where there's plenty of snow and ice I assumed a ice chunk melting. It occured to me the gas tank is ALSO right there. So, hoping for the best I take a look. DAMMIT! Seam leak on the tank leaking high test fuel on the ground. So, today I drained and removed the gas tank and patched it. It was holding up perfect but is JUST BARELY seeping again in the cold night. JUST enough to put moisture on the outside of the tank, not even drip on the ground. So , now I get to order a new gas tank too.

Ordered the new radiator today. Put together a WAI for it at Vatozone. 1 60* pipe, 1 4" straight pipe, 1 90* pipe and a Spectre filter later, I now have an air intake on the engine as there was NONE attached to the TB at all. Seems like that might have been a stupid idea, running NO filter at all...... That's remedied now.

Put brand new Napa:

Rotors:Premium x2
Pads: Safety Stop
Fuel Filter:Gold
Autolite Iridium Plugs x4
Napa Gold Oil Filter
Valvoline 10w30 x4.5

on it today.

Also put the directional tires in the CORRECT order on the car and rolling the RIGHT way (Yeah, I noticed it too). Some retard did an X Rotation on it without using their heads. You just can't train some monkeys.

Never did get around to her bath or vacuum unfortunately..... Gas tank surprise took up a good portion of my day.

Tomorrow's agenda:

1. Install new blower motor.
2. Install new radiator and fresh 50/50 coolant.
3. Install new serpentine belt.
4. Vacuum and wash car.
5. Hopefully get to taking driver's side door apart to see what's up with the window regulator.

I found the source of the supposed oil leak too.... Helps if you actually tighten the goddamn oil filter when installing it! Was BARELY tightened on and seeping pretty good out of the bottom of the oil filter adapter between it and the oil filter. Installed the new Napa Gold filter TIGHTLY and no leaks anywhere of oil since. He did mention the leak to me and was keeping up on keeping the oil topped off. Stupid easy fix.

Took her to the casino tonight to get smokes. About a 50 mile round trip. Runs out B-E-A-utifully on the hwy. No rattles, shakes, clunks. OP never dropped below 45 psi, smooth good power in 5th on hills too. Getting high 20's mpg from what I could tell about 26mpg on the hwy. Not bad. Considering it has 153k on the clock.

I hate not having brights though. Gotta get that column apart and see what the deal is. That's annoying.

Loving the car though. I expect to fix an older car up, ESPECIALLY for the price I paid for a rare HO Quasar. Still pleased.

I thought they'd all be the same?? Well, I seem to remember there was a redesign somewhere, but I thought 87-92? fit...

Wouldn't those usually have the plastic tank?

Why not just get a newer one. Then you can be rid of that crazy exhaust pipe.

Yeah, they have the plastic tank. And they have the "clips" for the three lines coming off of the pump on the tank too near the back edge. I guess I could go to the updated design on the '94+. Is it an exact drop in or are there modifications required?

As far as fit it looks like '87-'90 are one design, '91-'91 are another and '94-'96 are the last. I can find '87-'90 all day long and '94-'96 all day long. If it's a straight drop in, pump and all, then I'll go that route.

Really? I had a hard time getting my 90 tank. Only found one and it was 450 bucks.
I came up with all years but the ones I needed. I don't remember where I got it. One of the GM parts places online. I sent alot of emails to check stock. Took about a month of searching to find.

I know the older ones have a different design for the way the front of the strap goes on... Not sure about the newer ones. I'm sure someone has done the swap for exhaust clearance.

Well, I went to NAPA today and had them check around. They called the Chevrolet dealer in Albuquerque and THEY said they could get one for $562.00. I told them to basically take a hike. I won't pay that much. Screw that crap.

MPB: The '90-'92 model year plastic tanks like yours and mine are the bitch to locate. I mistyped above. '87-'89 and '93-'96 are cake to find. All over the place. So, I'm either going to end up pulling this one again and plasti-welding it or getting one from a junkyard (as much as I HATE that idea for a gas tank...).

Did you get your tank from that link you gave me? I see they have one but it's $400 plus shipping and no pic to verify accuracy. I've seen MANY sites link to a "1992 Beretta fuel tank" and then you get there and it's a '93 plus tank.

Btw, for future searchers, GM has DISCONTINUED the '90-'92 Beretta fuel tanks. THAT'S why they're so damn hard to find! Found that out today from GM.

So, today's progress on the Quasar.

First, let me say, I know you're all chomping at the bit for more pics. I'll try to get some tomorrow. We are LITERALLY getting wailed on by a blizzard that hit late in the day. I was more concerned with getting my work done and today's work to the Quasar and getting it safely home then pics. For the same reasons, I've yet to get her washed or vacuumed. Been TOO DAMN COLD , and now snowing like hell!

But I digress.....

Replaced the blower motor today. Old one damn near fell apart in my hands pulling it out. Wobbly as hell, bearings SHOT, squirrel cage damn near falling off of the motor. Put the new one in and walaa! Blowing heat but no switching from defrost to vent, etc. Kinda figured this was gonna happen as the CC was non-functional when I tested it last night. And those of you who TRULY know these cars know what I'm gonna say next. It was , yes , the oh so typical vacuum line running from the TB to the CC unit and vent changer line. It was broken 6 inches off of the CC line. Patched it back together with some new line and boom! Vents change, heat blows DAMN hot now. It had nice warm heat before, just no blowing action. :P Boy, lemme tell you what, one nice NAPA blower motor later she damn sure blows now!

Next, I pulled the old cracked radiator (driver's tank was cracked, VERY typical on Quad and W41 motor radiators) and put a shiny new one in and refilled the coolant with green 50/50. Everything is B-E-A-Utiful there now. I now have EXCELLENT blowing heat and, though the car already ran cool and had nice coolant staying at about 1/4 on the temp gauge, it now runs at one 1/8 on the temp gauge, lol.

I got my insurance card, license plate and title switched over today (clear title for those wondering). I also put a brand new set of Rain-X wiper blades on and a new license plate bracket with a tinted cover over the plate.

That's pretty much all I did today.

Tomorrow, new serpentine belt, and maybe some cleaning on the engine INSIDE my shop where it's warmer. I still need to get to that window regulator in the driver's side door. Getting REALLY annoying.... Pics tomorrow I hope. :D
