Stainless steel SI Valves ordered....

Image

For those who didn't know including me... the 3500 Exhaust valve is already stainless steel but it's what they call a two piece... It's not a welded on tulip like most but it has a hardened steel tip on the top of the stem where it contacts the rocker. that is the only part of the valve that is not stainless. SO unfortunately going to stainless steel will not reduce exhaust valve pitting like I was hoping.

We used to use them at the shop I work at as per the buyers instruction only to have a lot of the parts returned due to the time-serts either cracking or backing out on their own or with the bolt, Westinghouse amoung other large company's that we supply parts for switched to keen-serts due to their stronger build and "superior" locking system or so we were told..

I understand 100% on having a spare engine. That's what I was going to do with your valve springs. haha.
I never had any issues at the dealer when I used time-serts with red Loctite. But I imagine your machine shop uses them in a larger volume.

The kit just arrived yesterday, I will be using red loctite on them when they are installed and I doubt there will be any issues... I mean I'm not expecting them to hold a bunch of torque or anything, they have to be better than just aluminum threads ;)

Kit arrived today at work and so did my valves... Unfortunately I'm out in New Jersey though so I can't see them. I'll be home on sunday and mess with all of it next week.

Some more go fast parts...

Exhaust is slightly lighter than the stock one but the intake is heavier.

I'm hoping that the less dish in the back of the exhaust valve will change the CC's of my combustion chamber just enough to where I don't have to shave the heads, or at least make the amount necessary less... I should be able to CC them with these valves this week to verify.

That looks like fun! I have yet in my life to build an engine, or for that matter blow up one. Will be interested to see if these changes make it faster than asylums N/A record. If memory serves me correctly, believe he used a 3 speed automatic. Do you think the gearing between the two transmissions would make any differences in your 1/4 mile times?

I have always been a believer that the gearing will change your 1/4 mile times as well as I believe that I am toting around more weight than Asylums car ever did... I have a full trim Z26 with AC and such... he just had a GT with no AC and the lighter 3t40.

Honestly I'll be happy with a 13.9 again... :)

Update on new final cam specs...

Dur@.006 268/282 Dur@.050 218/230 Total Lift .570/.568 109ICL 113LSA

Going with Pac 1218 springs

I can't wait to see what time you'll run once you get it all finished and dialed in... It's gonna get crazy!

Did some CC'ing with the new valves in vs the old... I was getting a pretty steady 32cc before which is accurate since stock is 32.4 and these heads have been shaved twice so far... Well with the new SS valves I got a reading of 30.5 and I'm assuming that's due to the large dish change between the exhaust valves.

This is good because now I can easily get the heads to 30cc like I wanted and then shave .002 to .005 off the block to get it flat and perfect and all that work I'll end up with 10.5-10.58:1 compression ratio... PERFECT! :) Looks like I'll have to feed this pig at least 91 octane from now on.... It wont be happy with 87 like I've been giving it before. And yes it got 93 when I was at the strip running the NOS, it will probably need 98 now.

That should give it a nice kick over the old setup for sure

Would you buy that Race Gas in a can octane booster - or mix it with track bought gas?

Mix it at the track with their gas... I don't trust booster in a can.

the plastic "shot" bottle of octane enhancer is a .point increase of the treated 20 gallons.
example: '"raises octane 1 point" = 20 gallons of 87 octane + one bottle = 87.1'

Exactly. That's why I tell people to just fill up with higher octane, it would cost less. But this stuff makes them feel good for some reason.
