Finally my 1990 GTZ Restoration Project

Post by 1990BerettaGTZ2.3L »

Well since im on the big computer and not my Iphone figured id post these shes a work in progress im one step closer to getting it running with a new harness!!! Shes my 1990 Beretta GTZ Quad 4 5 Speed car, 174,000 miles, original color is WA8555 Black, shes been around previously in Georgia, Pa titled in 1992, was in Texas before because it has a Texas 2004 inspection sticker, I bought her off a guy that had it for sale on Craigslist, for $600 in Butler, Pa i paid him another $100 to trailer it to me in my hometown Meadville, Pa. Since i bought her i have bought a clear set of markers that i might go LED with not sure yet. Bought 2 GT spoilers, got one painted black and the other is my spare. Bought a close to mint Lumina Z34 Steering wheel on ebay for like $35 shipped, i still have my original leather wrapped wheel dont know if i will part with yet. Bought a NOS LH GM taillight in plastic wrap, not sure if i will use it yet, and i bought a NOS Gm LH headlight, since it had a different fluted lens pattern. Also bought a set of GTS styling headlight covers on ebay for i think $25.00. The last thing i bought was a 1991 Harness for a Quad 4 from Kris GTWhat? dunno if ill use it yet cause of my cruise control being different but Speedy is sending me a 1990 harness to piece mine together possibly. When i get a new motor for her then shes gonna get sandblasted underneath and painted original black on the exterior. I still need to locate a nice set of clear fillers, I have planned a W41 build or High Output with HG2 Cams, and 086 head ported and polished, Eagle Rods with ARP rod studs, gonna be fully balanced with maybe JE pistons still havent decided on that yet, and its gonna get a nice set of ARP Head Studs. But if i get the Crate motor ive been wanting its getting HG2 cams, Arp rod studs, and Head Studs and im running it. Ever since i bought the car its had the Zoom Racing Clutch box in the trunk that was apparently installed with the POS low output motor they put in there, and it has zero miles on it. All i want to do is get her fixed up and drive her because my 95 Z26 was alot of fun so this will take the cake ive always owned quad cars but not with the power that the high outputs have, so this is gonna be fun, ive always wanted a GTZ and i finally have one and still cant drive her yet :( so ill post pics as she progresses over time enjoy fellers.

Not the original engine. It has an oil pan sensor.

It is a 1995 Quad 4...Low Output.

Your seriously going to restore this?

You need to take that thing down to a bare frame and start from there.

Chris o wanna buy your 91 but it's my least favorite color in the world, I dislike white on any car hell believe it or not but I'd take pink and brown over it any day of the week but ya I'm still interested in it but the color will never phase me

if I could find a 90 GTZ in maroon or 91 in maroon I'd be gold 90 cause I love the older interiors and 91 because it's the year I was born

Wow. You should reconsider building this one. I had a 95 in similar shape that I abandoned and used as parts for my 91 build. I think you'd be much better off in the long run starting with a cleaner body. That's what I did and couldn't be happier. Unibody cars are much more difficult to fix the rot properly than a full frame car.

Paint it dude! You're not going to find many 20+ year old beretta's that don't need a pint job anyway! Plus you paint vehicles for a living so I'm sure you can do it on the cheap and have all the necessary equipment at your disposal! Your current GTZ's paint is roached, so what's the big deal? I'd rather do paint then paint AND bodywork! ;)

Ya but then I gotta pull the motor and trans and paint it in the engine compartment, I'm trying to buy a body roller like what woody used on his they are slick for doing the underneath the way I want to, I'm gonna sandblast it all and fix the rockers then I'm gonna paint the whole underneath with SEM rust protection, it's like a heavy duty enamel it's nice shi* I use it in the big trucks at work and it works nice for a nice smooth looking undercoating that will last a long time and the hotter you get it setting the can out in the sun the glosser it cures, mix it up with some lacquer thinner and spray it, I wonder if I should put chip guard along the bottom first though like suburu does I looked under my dads and it has it all along and there's no rust and that saying something for a suburu, then it will practically last forever!!!, if I find a garnet GTZ I'm painting it Candy Brandywine

Start with something good and then rust-proof it. You have a lot of deteriorated metal structure on that car, and you're going to have to cut the piss out of it to get to all the areas that need new metal. I originally thought about doing that with my 95, but the return on your time investment is not worth it. And I don't think you'd want to put a car on a tilter that still has a drivetrain in it. haha

She's my baby and I'm not gonna let her die because she's been through hell and back with previous owners i'm a body man and can make as good as she once once ;) I'm gonna try to find a nice pair of factory rockers on a base or something at a junkyard and have them cut em out for me that way I have the factory pinch weld which is what I need most or I can rebuild it with some 18 or 20 gauge sheetmetal to make it look factory that's really all she needs other Thanatos good sandblasting then she'll be as good as new
