Should I get this?

Post by primetime »

1996 Z26 Auto. Guy is asking $1250

Needs new steering rack and and filler neck for the gas.
A1 Cardone #22137 for the rack at rockauto is $74 with core. FN624 is part number for filler neck $64

How hard is it to get a set of GTZ wheels?

I'd post pics, but I get a message that says "post looks too spamy for a new user, please remove off-site URLs."

The filler neck only goes on cars that are rotten. I'd give it a REALLY good look for rust. When my steering rack went on the '95 it was also a rust-related failure.

Primetime: where are you from? and yes, give the car a good look over for rust. check over the board here, lots of valuable info on where to look for rust issues, and other standard "age related" problems with these cars

haha yeah... im hooked now.

I wouldn't worry about asking too many questions about rust under the car, just make sure to ask lots of questions about the rust up top around the roof area and make sure thats good and sound, as long as the roof is stable enough it can support the weight of the car that is most important. The lower rust if fixable with some sheet metal a welder and some skills, the roof well ummm not so simple.

WHAT? The roof is WAY easier to fix vs the critical suspension points of the vehicle! Find me a way to replicate a spring perch from sheet metal and a welder, or replicate the factory rocker/hing pillar support.
