How two cars can rust differently

Post by ifixalot »

So my daughter started looking at newer cars.Trouble is when you look, you want.
So she now owns a 2014 Honda Accord coupe.
Her Z26 Beretta is now in my possession so now I have two red Z26s.
Comparing mine to hers. My rockers are way better but mine has rust through on one rear quarter.
Her rocker bottoms are worse but she has no rust through on the rear quarters.
Her rubber snubbers inside the rear springs are sitting loose on the bottom but mine are still in place.
Her filler neck has heavy rust around the lip where the cap seals. Mine is clean.
I have holes in my front door sills both sides. Hers are solid with only some bubbling on the drivers side.
My front stab bar metal under the u bolt is almost gone. Hers is good.
It must be different quality metal during production.

It also depends on how well you clean it, how often it's driven and so on... There are thousands a variables that your not accounting for prior to blaming metal quality.

It also has a lot to due with the assembly of the different parts.
There are inherent problems with some models in just how parts are designed.
Berettas are known for trapping water and sediment in the rockers. (They actually rust from the inside out)

I think all of these things factor in.
If a car is driven on gravel and mud, it'll rust faster so dirt is a factor.
Even in an assembly line, things can be done differently during a run.
So some rockers might have drained better than others.
But I think the metal quality has a lot to do with it.
Funny how they said these cars were galvanized against corrosion.
The doors are great but it's like they left weak areas to assure they didn't last forever.
Hell if cars lasted forever, less people would buy new.

My '91 is absolutely rust free no matter where you look. Every nut and bolt.

Just turned 73,000 miles so it hasn't been hidden away.

Ya the dash was destroyed and the paint all fell of, but that is California. And can be fixed with no structural compromise.

It's how a car is treated and cared for as Jon alluded to.

These cars have areas of concern due to the assembly process, but the whole "conspiracy" over questionable metal is juvenile.

Would you pay and extra $5,000 for a car that won't rust for 20 years?

They can/could have, built them, but you wouldn't have bought them.

They actually build them now, but a Beretta to meet 2015 standards would be $30K.

Stupid argument!

It's not just Facebook killing this forum.
If you don't agree fine, but there is no need to get insulting.
I hesitate to post because of your responses.
