Whats better? 2.5 or 2.3 High Output

Post by A66ott »

I have a 95 z26 with the 3.1. I want to go to 5 speed and from my understanding the 3.1 either didnt have a 5 speed trans or they are junk and hard to find. Either way I'm looking into the quad 4 h.o. or a 2.5. What is yalls opinions on these motors with the 5 speed trans and which one is better for these cars.

There were 3.1 Z26's with 5spds, no 3100's. An engine swap= harness, sensor and computer.

Not aware of any 3.1 Z26s, only 3100. And it was never paired to a manual trans

If I'm correct the 3.1 is the same as a 3100 just change the zeros for a decimal lol and yes I'm prepared for a harness and computer swap

Very big difference between 3.1 (gen 2 aluminum head) and 3100 (gen 3 aluminum head). All the V6 5 speeds that were ever used in the beretta can used with the 3100, GM just never made that combo. The transmissions aren't junk and honestly the quad trans and v6 trans are the same model just different gear ratios.

You have some more research to do before making a final decision in my opinion.

My cousin who is gonna help me do it is talking me into a quad 4. Hes been buildong them for his calais and is in love with them. My pops is saying an iron duke that i can built it more than a quad 4. I just want a jaw dropper with a 5 speed that I'm not embarrassed by like my v6 which has no balls. Everyone I've talked to said the v6 was strong but mine has no balls. You guys are a big part of my research.

If you could build an Iron Duke to match the 2.3L in power it would not make a good street engine. Keep in mind that the 2.3L could be a 190hp engine with the right cams and head(stock with no mods). Better look into a 3400sfi swap. The short block drops right in with no mods.

And it comes with a 5 speed. Thats my main thing is going to to a 5 speed. I can barely find parts for berettas around where i live and i dont want to put anything new in the car that just makes it even harder to find parts for.

Not to mention you have the 3100 with a STOCK 4t60e with god who knows what abuse done to it, so I'm sure your lack of power is coming from that being tired and not built to put the power down.

A quad 4 swap is a lot of work when starting with a 95 V6 car so just keep that in mind. Seeing how you don't like the auto, you may want to just go with a 5-speed swap on the car first and I think you'll be surprised with how much it wakes up.

you need a Getrag 282 trans with a V6 bell housing... Many cars came with that transmission. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getrag_282_transmission

You will notice its the same transmission used on the Quad4 but with a different bell housing bolted to it. You will also need pedal setups from a 5-speed beretta, as well as the shifter assy and shift cables... Remember NONE of this can be bought new... so ANY 5-speed swap is going to be 100% dependent upon you finding these other beretta parts, regardless of what engine you're bolting to it.

There should be a 5-speed shopping list somewhere on this site... It's been done many times before.

So there is not any cars that the pedal, cables, and assy could come from that might be the same or close enough to mod to fit? I might have to find something to get to bfest with to come talk to you guys. I really want to do this but have a bad feeling im not gonna be able to find the correct parts in any of the yards around me.

Well if anybody has or knows of a parts car that would help me on my mission to convert this car it would be greatly appreciated. Only Berettas i can find around me are either autos or hand guns lol. Even the ones in the yards are autos

You need to search for 88-93... that's the only 5-speed year range for Beretta V6
