Official 2011 Chevrolet Beretta/Corsica Calendar!

Post by Wanako »

Alright guys! I'll be taking submissions to get the calendar going this year. Yes, I understand it's late, but I didn't know that nobody was taking charge of it this year, so I volunteered to take over for Kyle Anderson from here on out. Hopefully there's some time left. Now get out and get some mad tyte pictures!

Remember, most people vote for composition and picture quality, rather than just the car. Here's a few tips from Kyle Anderson:
-Location. Pick somewhere unique and exciting... your driveway doesn't cut it.
-Light. Early or late in the day is best for natural light. Midday sun is flat and doesn't provide much shadow or detail. Colors get washed out.
-Get rid of the junk. Crop out or use photoshop to remove distractions. There are several members that can help with this. Just ask in the photoshop section.
-Clouds are your friend. Clear skies may be great for going to the beach, but your pictures will be more interesting with clouds.
-Mergers. Watch out for for two or more objects overlapping... such as a light pole coming out the hood of a car.
-Angles. Get high up or low to the ground. If you take a picture of a car from standing height, it's probably going to look like any other snapshot.
-Get closer! You're taking a picture of the car, not all the crap around it. Unless you're trying to show the scale of the scenery, get close and show us the car!
-Color. This goes along with light; I saw a lot of washed out pictures. Vivid colors = excitement!
There are always exceptions, but these are general guidelines.

Pictures must be of high quality. Cropped to 8.5x11 at 300 dpi, or 1024x768 resolution minimum. If you're unsure, just set your camera to the highest quality. Any pictures with insufficient resolution will not be accepted, and the member will be notified.

Please include your member name from whichever board, BStuff or BNet, you're on as well.

You're welcome to change your submission at any time... just e-mail me a different picture and notify me of the change.

send all submissions to: keioken20@yahoo.com

The Cutoff date this year will be on Friday, November 19th at Midnight Pacific Standard Time. I'm in Los Angeles so this gives you maximum 5 hours extra to submit this to me.

Voting will commence on Monday, November 22 and will end on Tuesday November 30 at Midnight PST. Poll and voting will take place on Beretta.net. I'll provide a link when the time comes.

Due to the late start and time crunch, unlike last year, there will be NO deadline extensions. Once it hits Midnight on my side of the country it's done. I must have a minimum of 12 (duh!) good pictures to make this work, so everybody get out there and shoot!

*edit* Corsicas are also more than welcome!

Here are some of my own personal shooting and prep tips.
CARWASH! It should come hand-in-hand with car photography but you would be surprised how many people have submitted photos of a dirty car, which takes MASSIVE points off, or would be completely unacceptable. Subarus are exempt. laugh.gif

WAX! Shininess is good. It'll make us go "ooooh" and "ahhhh". Waxing will add natural color saturation and clearness.

TIRES AND WHEELS!! I cannot express this enough. Tires and Wheels are the most important accessory your car has. Obviously, brake dust is a BIG no no. Clean them wheels and scrub down any grime that might be on them. There are plenty of products out there that are specifically made to clean wheels of different types, whether they are chrome, polished, mag, etc. It's good to use Tire Shine, but don't use too much. You don't want your tires to be as shiny as the car itself. They are rubber, afterall, so you want a satin-type, not glossy, finish for your tires. It will make you tires look like good, clean, RUBBER tires in your image.

WINDOWS! It is a good idea to clean your windows again after a carwash and wax. Sometimes the water doesn't dry up correctly after a carwash so you'll get waterspots on your glass, which is also a no-no and will take away from your image. The last thing you want is a nice, clean, spotless car and there's all kinds of spots on your windows. These spots are more easily seen if you have tinting. I personally use Stoner's Invisible Glass cleaner. The stuff has worked great for me but there are many alternatives.

That's all the advice that I can think of at the moment... remember, these tips apply for ALL kinds of automotive photoshoots and is textbook knowledge if you want to be presentable at a car show or something.

OH YES!! Make sure your front wheels are always facing the camera. You will see in many, if not all, professional automotive photos that the wheels will always face the camera whether the car is stationary or otherwise. Again, the wheels are your car's best exterior accessory so it is important to show it.

if anyone else has some tips please share.

Beretta/ Corsica calender, has this been done before? I don't think corsicas should be in discussion for this calender. I've never seen a decent lookin' one. But I guess if there are nice ones out there.

I believe I've seen/heard of Corsicas being allowed before. Our community is already rather small so I don't want to exclude anybody.

Then you've never seen Val's old Corsica:
http://www.motortopia.com/cars/1996-che ... rsica-1190

Or the QuadFoursica, Jene's "Crimson Terror," or sousa's (I believe) old white one.

There were a few more here and there but I don't recall their usernames. I <3 Corsicas :D. I think more people need to modify them!

Needless to say, I think they should be allowed. It all comes down to a vote, anyhow. If people don't like the car or shot, It won't get voted in.

Wouldn't that just add a few more hours to the photoshop session? LOL :)

I suppose I could lol. I had to special order the paint. Apparently you can't just go buy Cayenne.

I'll sick my woman on the Photochop duties and see what I come up with lol.

I would find it hilarious after editing for hours if it made it in, then one of you saw it up close. Hahaa

Well the driver side has a huge dent now, passenger side is missing the filler door. But not from rust. I was driving to work, going about 75 -80, and my brand new tire broke a belt, tread separated, and wrapped around the filler neck. Ripped it out of the side of the car and off the gas tank. Only had a quarter tank, lucky I didn't explode. It actually pulled the mounting bracket off of the inside of the quarter panel, so I can't even mount a new door.

No lighting trick is gonna fix that! Haha

Damn that sound pretty hectic! Good thing nothing blew, except the tire that is.

As far as the calendar goes, I'll be posting the rules and submission info on here later tonight. I love bstuff and all but that crap with going down every other week is getting annoying. I was actually pretty sad yesterday when Bnet went down. lol.
