Burnt an alternator.

Jump started her. Twice.....

Put a "new" alternator in.

Called her a filthy whore and a few other choice names...

Ordered new alternator.

To do list:

Unload shotgun into engine block if this bitch keeps it up. :D

I added an extra power wire from the alternator to battery and ground from battery to strut tower on the Z and still draws alot with the stereo cranked or A/C on. Im only running a 300 watt rockford punch amp. it puts out some serious power for a small wattage size amp and seems to like tons of power.

Recently put a new alternator i had kicking around on it but i think its only 100 amp.

Weird thing is when i start the car and drive around with no stereo or A/C its charging 3/4 on the gauge, i can watch it and it stays steady then drops and goes right back up randomly.. same as with the stereo on. almost like the regulator in the alt cant handle it and keeps kicking off. wondering how i can fix this.

Also found im leaking power steering fluid in the Z as well today but not sure from where, possibly the bottom of 1 of the lines where the pressure fitting is on down near the rack or its the rack itself, leaking onto the exhaust. Maybe some lucas stop leak will cure it if its a seal somewhere. :(

Depressing lol

End of the rack is rotting out most likely. That is where mine leaked, same damn place. Just be careful replacing the rack, you can break the plastic nipples off the heater core. I know this well. LOL

Alternator issues. Yeah, sounds familiar still. One of these days I will do the big 3. Maybe. Could just have another bad alternator too though, wouldn't be the first time. Or the second. Or the third... LMAO

My day? Drove around some more doing work and stuff. This week I have already burned up 300 miles in it. Still have over a half a tank. lol (according to the gauge, which we all know is dead accurate) Was on the ferry to the island today to do some work. Will be over there again tomorrow too. Yippie. You know it costs 12 bucks a trip to go one mile on a boat at 10MPH?

Thank god I buy tickets. 88 bucks gets me 20 trips. Not bad. Hell of a lot cheaper than 12x20.

:D

I just replaced my rack, had the same problem. I have to replace the power steering pump too, cause it's had some nasty crap from the rotted rack cycled through it. It really sucks, but it's much better driving now, alot stiffer and, more responsive. Just sucks trying to park it right now, cause of the crappy pump, normal driving is fine though. On another note, I sold my 95' base today for starters. Sprayed all of the bees nests out of it, got in it, and attempted to start it, and the beast lived on, I was amazed! It started right up, after not being ran in almost a year! Then I met the guys with the rollback, they took the wheels off, then cut the cat off, it was the ghettoest thing I have ever seen, the way they used the rollback as a lift. Got payed, then stored all the crap I kept (2 sets of wheels and tires). I took the bra off of it too, then put it, and the headlight covers on the Z26, took pictures. (They are up in my topic if you wanna see em'.) I also cut some rubber floor mats to match the shape of the factory mats, and threw em' in the Z, works really well. Pretty much it for today, lots more in the coming days for sure.

No dice on this.... Got a call saying they sold the last one to Tripple Edge Performance but they do have their own version... Going back and forth right now to figure out if tripple edge has one to sell me, OR if the one they offer at Intense is better than the Stage 1 3rd gear pack I currently have. If not I'll stick with the Stage 1's. I haven't burnt third yet...

my steering is stiff and feels fine, if i leave the resistor low on the pump it doesnt leak.. it only happened after i topped it up. i thought it was a line but cant see from where. there is no rust on the car so i couldnt see that rotting. my heater core is new and all aluminum so dont have to worry about breaking off the plastic lol.

Going to try and keep it going until i pick up that 3400 and change the rack when the engines out if it needs it. much easier.

Found a Z-pack through Tripple Edge Performance, Intense called them up since they sold them to them and he was willing to drop ship me one of them. I'll clean a spot on the shelf for it and save it for when I start to cook third gear on the Stage 1 Raybestos clutches.

Beretta: as far as your charging... Anytime you have a large system in a car hitting bass it will cause the volt gauge to drop, you need a capacitor in line to the amp to help prevent that. Stock GM alternators are 105 amp and not really built to support the car/ac, AND a heavy stereo load. especially at low rpms.

And when you say you leave the reservoir low on the PS how low and how full are you talking about here? Going by the lines on the cap? or visual full/low? Also check your main pressure line GOING to the rack, when they get old they will begin to crack and then seep. Mine was just leaking through tons of tiny holes in the rubber line so I just replaced it this year. Also the return line goes down to the cooler that wraps under the passenger side, make sure those fittings just behind the trans diff are tight and not leaking. I blew one of those off on my 95 and had to drive 40min home with an empty reservoir since I didn't know what blew off...

You can see the two lines at the bottom of this pic in the corner. I replaced all the rubber with new lines and used the Fuel Pressure hose clamps to secure them. Originally they were just the small spring loaded clamps... I'm not surprised they blow off since even the low side has decent pressure.

I purchased them from EP jeff. There from a 89 grand am 5spd.He told me to hacksaw them off and find ball sockets.
It's like 150 degrees inside my car.lol I didn't want to spend 3 hundred dollars on custom cables yet.But i will be after this.

Fixed the power steering leak on the Z today. turns out it was the main line leaking, spraying out of it in like 3 places all around the same spot just at the bend going down by the brake booster. cut the line stuck a piece of steel line in the center and clamped the heck out of it. for now until i can purchase the proper line.

At least it was spraying out there not sure if possibly leaking somewhere else as well but i think that will fix it, glad i dont have to change the rack lol, and far as rust i couldnt see that rusting out since the rest of the under body is rust free
