Electronic spark timing

Post by Guest »

hey I have a 89GT 2.8 auto, and my car will not start. It keeps turning over, but will not start. I just got done replacing the Crankshaft sensor, and still no luck. When the ignition is on, the radiator fan turns on. This is with the engine off, but the ignition on. The code indicates code 42 - Bypass or Electronic Spark Timing. Is this a sensor that I can replace? Where is it located on my car, and how much will it cost me? Any info is much appriciated! Does this sound like a faulty ECM that needs to be replaced?

Thanks

the EST code you got commonly refers to the knock sensor. I would inspect the wire from the knock sensor to make sure it is not shorted or grounded. If it is not I would also check the coolant temp sensor to be ssure it is in range as it will affect the timing. If this checks out ok I would look at the computer. If you have fuel pressure, ign reference from the cranks sensor, it should run.
