Yesterday my dad yelled at me because I went to the JY and picked up a set of rims with brand new Goodyear Ultra-Grips.  He said, "Jason, what size are those rims"

me  "14s"
"you can't just put 14s on a car designed for 16s"
me  "yes I can"
"no you can't"
me  "a lot of base models come with 14s"
"Well all the stuff on your car is designed for 16s"
me  "no it's not, they are all the same"

Am I wrong, not that I'd tell him, but am I?

P.S. And no I don't usually get tires from the JY, but inspection is in like a week and I don't have the cash for new 16s.

Your dad doesn't know what he's talking about.  You can ALWAYS downsize to a smaller wheel, unless brake clearance prohibits it.  You CAN go with 14s but ONLY IF you go with the corresponding tire size, liek 205/65 or something.  That I don't know.  
If your dad still nagging you, then ask him why people CAN upsize to 19s when their car came with 15s or 16s? Surely he must think that they had to upgrade EVERYTHING to make the 19s work;)
And tells him that the INDY package REALLY IS!!! I don't think he knows

Oh and remember, you're getting a softer ride now since you have more treadwall to absorb the impact.
