Diffrence in 3400 s?
Ok i was wondering if there was a diffrence in the 3400s from year to year or from vehicle to vehicle like i thought that maybe the 3400 in the venture/montana/aztec would be more powerful than say the alero/grandam etc? I was also wondering if you was to get a motor from the mini van would it mount up the same as the ones from the grand am? I know that the mini van motors are used with the 4t65e tranny so I didnt know if that would pose a problem either?

The blocks/motors for all 3400's are the same... I believe in 01 they started using a different style rear exhaust manifold that was more "header" like... other than that, a couple emissions crap changed, I don't think there is much difference... the HP rating is more likely a subtle change in ECM programming, or due to relocation of airboxes.
Either way, I would get a 2001 or newer, mostly because of the rear manifold, but also because the motor had been out for a couple years for GM to work any flaws out of it.
