Get a 3.1 block bore it .030 over, use some higher compression pistons, like 9.5:1 mild cam and some spray when you need it. Also use the 2.8 intake get it extrude honed so u can tell people it's still a "stock" 2.8. SLEEPERS RULE!

From what I've heard discussed on here, there are quite a few different options:
-3.1 with all the fantastic mods for cheap (my personal recommendation)
-3100,3400,3800,3800SC
-3.4
-2.3 HOQuad4, W41 Quad4
I believe (not 100% sure) that the 2.8 tranny should be able to bolt onto the 3.1, 3.4, 3100 and maybe the 3400/3800... woody would know for sure. Guess that eliminates the Quad4's...
With the 3.1 with no other mods and ported heads, intake and exhaust you can get about 30HP... throw in overbore, a mild cam, lightened flywheel, roller tip rocker arms...
... if you have the cash you can hit 200HP with a 3.1 no problem. And that's not even including a Turbo or Supercharger.

The Quad 4 will not bolt up to the 2.0,2.2,2.8,3.1or 3100 tranny.
A 3.4 will not fit.
3800 is a heavy beast but has been done.
or just turbo your 2.2.
No mater what way you do it, It will take $$
