1989 FORD Probe GT 5 Speed Turbo for $300?

Post by GTU89 »

I have a lead on a turbo (all GT's (in that gen) were I believe) 89' 5 speed Probe GT for $300 in running condition, still inspected.

Does that sound like a good deal as long as it isn't a rust bucket? Any clue as to how much I could sell it for? I'd imagine in the $800 to $1300 range but I do not know.

PA, quite far away from Canada lol

So I'm guessing that is a really good deal on it? No Paint peel or anything, only cosmetic problem is a flat black hood, which could be fixed with a rattle can.

depends on the car... the car itself isn't worth too much to many people. but they are getting harder to find. i just took a drive close to PA (MA)to visit a member and pick up his Indy rims he had for sale at the end of august... not a big deal, but i don't have a truck to come and get it at this time! lol

I like the Turbo part and the 5 speed part, but god are those cars ugly! And their name..

But, I'm sure as long as I don't sink any money into it I could make some money off of it.

I'm shocked that those little Mazda 2.2's make 190TQ!

yes, and they are pretty hard to kill. the turbo is what makes that torque! otherwise, you have the stock 110ish of my mazda b2200

They hold up great over time and take a beating too, that turbo engine is a great engine. I had a 626 mazda 5 speed it was very fast for a 88 with 240k on it. I dont think you can lose at 300 bucks, very easy to sell to younger kids because of it being turbo.

Yeah, it does seem like a good deal. Just was not sure if they were problematic or anything like that since I do not plan on keeping it. I plan to buy it, clean it up a bit and sell it.

Although the seller doesn't seem too motivated, wouldn't even send me a different picture of it (he only sent me a bigger version of the sole pic in the for sale ad)

Well, forget it I guess. I asked him if it was a GT for sure (somewhat long drive, don't want to get there and find it isn't what I thought it was) and he never answered. I looked at the CL ad and it is now posted as a GL.

Yeah, some people you just do not want to deal with. But hell even if it was a non-turbo base model $300 is still a good price that I would think you would be able to make money on the resale. Unless they are just going for pennies on the dollar in your area.

It needs a fan as well.

I thought it was funny though, I asked him if it would make a 60 mile trip home to where I live and he said it would be fine, then after he wouldn't txt me back I checked the ad to see if it maybe sold and he also put in the ad that it needed a cooling fan, and some other things.

I may skip on this one, since it needs wheels, tires and a fan, and I'm gonna guess it would end up needing other work as well to sell it.
