I assume the flange I need is for a 3100 Grand am from around the 1994 era just wanted to confirm this before ordering the part

all the way up to a 05 3400 would be the same flange IIRC...

cut the flange off and have a muffler shop weld a down pipe that fits to it.

depending the flex pipe used, it can last many years to many days. The thin corrugated tube often found at the local parts store is not going to last. That's meant for a temp "get me home without much attention/no tickets" fix. The use of a nice welded on inconel flex bellow on to non rusty (prefer new) pre existing exhaust will last a long time.

well the van parts were not usable on the car, the exhaust shop fabricated the entire pipe and flange. Its attached to the car using a similar method to the original exhaust springs and donut gasket. They even wrapped the shifter cables wrapped in high heat foil, and the down pipe itself is wrapped all the way with header wrap.

$280 later the car is quiet now I can troubleshoot all the other problems !
