pros and cons of no cat with stock muffler

Post by themadness »

i live in NC where 95 and older cars dont have to undergo emissions testing. what would be the pros and cons of cutting out the cat and leaving the stock muffler? or does it even matter?

i think the CC is shot anyway so i have been considering what to do.....

It will be a bit louder but with the stock muffler probably not that much... other than that you may get sick of the stink... I know I do when I have my non catted part on my car.

Yes, if your current one is bad that is! Otherwise no, not really...

If yours is bad, just buy a universal one, they can be had for $60-70 online.

Hell, I have one that I don't need, never been used... contact me if interested. It's a high-flow Magnaflow unit.

You will get a woft of exhaust fumes almost any and all stops you come to if your windows are down. I had my legacy catless and that would give me a headache, granted that is turbo'd so it does run a bit richer from time to time so excess fuel may contribute to that being a stronger smell.

Bottom line as Brett said, it will give you no performance gains at all.
