Tire Preferences
What are you guys running lately for tires? What do you like and what holds up well?
I need a set of 4 or I need to buy two new KDW's to match my rears... Now the problem with that is the rears are not of the same condition as two new fronts would be, they are much older and show slight signs of cracking from age... SO it's either just buy two KDW's now, and buy two more soon... OR buy 4... OR go with a different brand tire that may perform the same but be a little cheaper than $544 for 4 of them....
I'm looking for a 225/45/17 so keep that size in mind since I know some brands/companies don't make all the sizes.

Re: Tire Preferences
I run 225/45/17 hankook ventus HRII's and they seem pretty nice. They are a great improvement over my other tires, but that means nothing because they are crap.
I actaully have 215/40's in the back of my car because I havent replaced those yet.
Alot of times these tires dont squeal, you can probably hear the noise in that video pat posted.

Re: Tire Preferences
i have always bought DUNLOP (HIGH END models) for the gtz... the goodyear gator backs it came with the car lasted me 12000 miles, the dunlops cost less, and lasted 2 times the milleage. they were also in every which way a higher performance tire..
i am now about to buy my 3rd pair, the tirerack.com has a sale till june the 10th at midnight on dunlops ($80.00 mail in rebate)
i looked at your size, and yes they have them.. your choice..

Re: Tire Preferences
those end up being $625 to my door... I can get a full set of BF Goodrich KDW's that rate better than the Dunlops for $524 to my door... that's 100 bux less (yes I know $80 rebate, but that takes like 6 weeks, so in the end its 20 bux less) and all I loose out on is an added little bit of road noise... But I've had those on my Red car for a while and now the rears are still on my 96 and it doesn't bother me since the exhaust is already loud.1990 GTZ wrote:i am now about to buy my 3rd pair, the tirerack.com has a sale till june the 10th at midnight on dunlops ($80.00 mail in rebate)

I was looking for a cheaper alternative, since I kind of need at least two tires (I will not mix and match brands any longer) or I need all 4 replaced before bfest.
Kinda running out of money for this year... I've had some very large purchases, one in the most recent month, so I'm kinda strapped right now.

Re: Tire Preferences
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec - Same price as the KDW, but in a higher performance class.
Kumho Ecsta XS - $129/ea Good reviews, same class as the above dunlop
There's also a couple Hankook models which look like a good bang for the buck.
There are some rebates on GoodYear ($50), Dunlop ($80) and Continental (Free tom-tom GPS) depending on the tires too.

Re: Tire Preferences
I've always liked my Hankook K106s. I will need to replace them soon, but they have lasted me years and I'm not exactly easy on them. $79/per

Re: Tire Preferences
Goodyear F1 GS-D3 are $157 at Discount Tire .com with free shipping.
Great reviews and I love them on my cars (All 3 Berettas)
(They always have free shippng now.)
However that might be more than you would like to spend at this point.
Go with the Falkens.

Re: Tire Preferences
I would've recommended the F1s as well, but didn't because of the price point.. That's what are on mine too.. Until the next time I need to replace them. Looks like the size I'm using is no longer available.

Re: Tire Preferences
tirrack.com does dot list that model (K106), you must have an older model..woody90gtz wrote:I've always liked my Hankook K106s. I will need to replace them soon, but they have lasted me years and I'm not exactly easy on them. $79/per

Re: Tire Preferences
Yeah I would go with F1's but they are way out of my price range right now, and also the Hankook, I'm not too fond of spending only 88 bux (new price) each on a something that's keeping my ass out of the woods on a curvy road. I also have the Kumho Ecsta AST on my red car and I'm not all that impressed with them, but I also don't want a "all season" tagged tire...
This car is a summer only option and will rarely see rain, so even high performance in wet conditions are not the biggest concern, put it this way, If I know its raining out I wont be driving it, if I get stuck in the rain, well ok I'll deal with it.
Any comments on Nitto NT NeoGen ZR tires? I see those look somewhat agressive and have a 280 treadwear over the 200 on the Falken, pretty good reviews on discount tire, but thats not the best crowd to ask too...
Also quite a bit of talk on some other boards about the Falken 452's....
Damnit I'm so confused on what tire to get... this sucks... time's running out quick too... I need to buy them and get them mounted next week since I'm leaving Tuesday morning the 16th and bald Dunlop SP 901's are not the best thing to be driving down there on...

Re: Tire Preferences
I think Goodyears are always overpriced. I like the Kumho MX's and the RT-615's and Bridgestone Potenza RE730s. I have had quite a few Dunlops and have always been un-impressed and they seem to wear crazy fast. The hankook ventus IIs don't really seem to be very good for performance compared to the others listed but they last long.
