speed sensor problem

speed sensor problem
1991 5 speed 3400
My car did something odd today, during a run up the highway today the speedometer reading went a little strange. would go fine up until about 70 kph then the needle would goto 0 then back up to 70 very smoothly. basically up and down of the speed i was driving.
I did have a problem with the speedometer in my 1995 2.2 beretta and it turned out to be a gear in the transmission. I haven't done much troubleshooting on this so far but just wondering more if anyone else has had the problem.
