Electronic Odometer: 1989

Post by 88*Beretta »

Trivial, but the odometer is running 3x faster than actual miles. Speedometer and Trip Meter work fine, along with mpg.

A local GM mechanic indicated to get another unit....I think I'll find a hour meter to keep track of engine run hours.

I have never heard of that problem before. I do have some spare analog instrument cluster parts (I think there is a whole cluster I could part with too, depending on four-cylinder or V-6) if you want to try to fix it... An hour-meter almost sounds more informative than an odometer though, I like that idea.

Berreta GT, with the electronic dash...

Speedometer and Trip Meter work fine....after next oil change, I'm going to write down all trip mileage (via fuel stop reset), and compare to odometer. If odometer is consistently 3X higher, I'll just let it be.

Thanks for the offer, but if I do something, it will be an hour meter solution. As long as speedometer/trip works, its no big deal.

Ahhh, okay, sorry. I have DEFINITELY not heard of anything like that on the digis, particularly since the odo and the tripometer are run by the same computer, that is really weird. I have three cars with those digital clusters, and aside from an occasional segment acting weird (contacts on glass LCD display need to be cleaned again), mine have luckily been just fine. I sold one of my spares off last year, but if you get to a point where it is bothering you or messing up worse, I'm sure I have another one I could sell... Until then, glad everything else on it is working right -these things are 25+ years old now, I think they were pretty well built. :good:
