Be cheaper to buy the vehicle the engine is in as a junker, rob the engine, and then scrap the rest.... To be honest.

Agreed, if you have the room and are doing the work yourself. Otherwise you are paying to have two engines removed and one put in.

Re: My friend died on me today :(
is there a particular car i should look to get the motor out of, or they are pretty much exactly the same in every car that came with the 3400?BerettaGTZchick wrote:Bman Gtz wrote:3400 swap!
Re: My friend died on me today :(
You may want to consider cars from 02 or later as they had better breathing upper intakes, cars like Venture, Aztec, Impala?. Not sure what all models had them though. Someone here has a complete list.

What he said... I don't think the APV ever came with a 3400 or a 3.4 of any kind - just 3.1, 3100, or 3800. Chevy Venture van?

Just Wikipedia'd it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Lumina_APV
..1996.... Both the 3.1 and 3.8 L V6 engines were dropped, and the 3.4 L LA1 V6 became the only engine available with 180 hp (130 kW) and 205 ft*lb of torque.

Re: My friend died on me today :(
Quick wiki search... Next time I wish others could just type this into google then they could find out everything they need to know about a 60* engine.
LA1
The LA1 3400 ("E-code") was a bored-out version of the 3100. It retained the OHV layout of the previous engine, and was first utilized on the 1996 U platform minivans. Output for the 3400 is 180 hp (134 kW) and 205 lb·ft (278 N·m).
Applications:
1996 Chevrolet Lumina APV
1997-2005 Chevrolet Venture
1996-2004 Oldsmobile Silhouette
1996-1998 Pontiac Trans Sport
1999-2005 Pontiac Montana
1999-2005 Oldsmobile Alero
1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am
2000-2005 Chevrolet Impala
2000-2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
2001-2005 Pontiac Aztek
2002-2005 Buick Rendezvous
Just note all of these other changes with the engines life and why some say an 05 is better if it's a GM engine... All bets are off though if its a Reman... Who knows what parts are in it.
