94 Quad 4 to (3x00) OBD2 Swap Help
So here it is, finally decided to swap the knocking again quad 4 out of my Beretta for a 3x00 v6. Most likely a 3500, I've been reading here and over at 60degreev6.com and think I have it nailed down for the 3500 swap. I don't post much but I do lurk around. My name is Hector and I'm on my 3rd Beretta....lol
I just came back from my local u-pull it and managed to strip a 96 Corsica and got a full obd2 engine harness with computer, engine mounts, maf, icm, coil packs and various hoses and misc stuff to fit a v6 into my car. Still need to go back and get more (I'm on-call for work and got called in). All for a measly $65.
Im currently looking for a v6 getrag no one locally has one, closest one is 650+ miles away....if anyone has something send me a pm...ill even buy just the v6 bellhousing, swap it and call it a day.
So onto the questions, the Corsica I pulled the harness from didn't have temp gauge nor oil pressure gauge. What would I need to do to have that? Can I use my quad 4 gauge cluster or need one for a v6? I also read that I can delete the auto trans from the ecm? Planning into getting a used DHP powrtuner later on.
Anything else I'm missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank You!
ps, don't want this to turn into a q4 vs 3x00 thread. The q4 is a good engine...but I cant find them locally and dont want to rebuild this one. I can get a 30k mile 3500 for $450 locally, yet even a 3400 for $350. Im set into swapping a 3x00 into my car.

Do you realize your quad z is 1 of 800 quad z26s in the world? Its your car but in my opinion a v6 z is everywhere. Why not just get one?

Re: 94 Quad 4 to (3x00) OBD2 Swap Help
you're going to need to account for engine and trans mounts/brackets

Yeah I know that, berettas in my area are rare. I cant find any good ones for sale, not even running around town.speedy wrote:Do you realize your quad z is 1 of 800 quad z26s in the world? Its your car but in my opinion a v6 z is everywhere. Why not just get one?
I have engine mounts, timing cover brackets and accessory brackets from the donor car, I just don't have engine to trans brackets.1988GTU wrote:you're going to need to account for engine and trans mounts/brackets

You will want to use the actual weld on brackets to match the mounts and also make sure they are positioned in the right spot. Unless you like having axle issues.

His car already has the brackets in the right spot since it was already a 5 speed car (obviously). He has everything he needs to do this swap since he took it all from the 96.1988GTU wrote:You will want to use the actual weld on brackets to match the mounts and also make sure they are positioned in the right spot. Don't let anyone talk you out of this swap. Anyone who thinks these cars are going to be worth something one day is delusional. Swap in that 3500 and never look back.
And you need a v6 cluster, or the tach will be off. And I believe you must get a cluster from a 96, or you have to do something differently to make an earlier cluster work - I can't remember exactly the details maybe someone else can chime in on that.

It is totally easier to swap a V6 into a 4-cylinder manual chassis than swap the auto out for a manual.

why destroy a quad z though? use a dam 2.2l base or something, them things are a freaking dime a dozen.

Because then you have to add all the other stuff to make it the same....
Why not start out with the most optioned chassis you can get.

Where are you located? There is a 92-93 v6 5-speed at my local yard. It has the 92+ mounts but a external slave. Must be a 92. Rare trans for sure.

No destroying here, just an engine swap. I mean, its not like I'm going to sell it for scrap.speedy wrote:why destroy a quad z though? use a dam 2.2l base or something, them things are a freaking dime a dozen.

Why the #e!! is everything 3000 miles away from me? That is EXACTLY the tranny I want for my '95 Z-26, once I get her back. The right mounts, and I DON'T like concentric slave-cylinders, too costly and time-consuming if there is a problem, with all the eggs in one hard-to-reach basket...Barry wrote:Where are you located? Hey, good luck with the swap, despite some (understandable) criticisms, remember that this is YOUR car. I was very careful on my '89 GTU when I swapped-in the 3800, I drilled two holes in the fully interchangeable right sub-frame and cut one ground wire going into the fuel tank -the rest of my conversion can be unbolted, and with the original drive-train in place, you would never be able to tell the 3800 was ever in there. The modified ground-effects for the side-outlet exhaust system was almost physically painful to me, but that wasn't actually engine-swap-specific, and I barely thought twice about drilling the firewall for the clutch master-cylinder to convert it from auto -my car should have been a five-speed already.
Now, if you were a lot closer, I would say I was interested in your old Quad and five-speed... That might be fun in my '95 Z.
