Thanks for clearing that up.

And yeah the car is an 88 that never got the maf removed, the it started giving me pronlems and i replaced my original AMAL prom for an ARCL.

Ill start digging the TP site :)

OBD1 tuning.....in my agenda.

What about widebands? No one mention that yet?

Ive used this wideband. Innovate MTX-L. I bought it on sell from Amazon. Very good product. Included datalogging software to view AFR in real time. I used it in conjuction with Hptuners. Wire tap it in so i can read it in my configuration file for a 2002 Chevy Cavalier Z24.

widebands are fairly standalone in nature.... most ECMs have an extra A/D channel open so that you can feed the signal into the ECM to have it spit out over the ALDL stream along with all of the other data.

if you patch enough code, you can actually remove the need for a narrowband sensor and do all fueling corrections via the wideband.

also: taking a guess due to there being about 5 of them that apply, but 88 2.8, try A057.

Standalone in nature i agree on. But for a OBD1 1990 Quad 4 ECM.....patch enough code? Using what?

And please elaborate on those definitions.

1990 Q4 being a 1228707? that ECM is more or less a 1227730 with extra 2K of SRAM from the 16149396 and the second injector driver(and FMD) from the 1227749.

i think. been a while since i've seen one. if so, there is probably at least one open A/D channel that could be used for wideband AFR.

as for patching, i write all of my patches in hex, rather than in an assembler, seems to work better for me.

would you like expanded upon?

Robert, if im not mistaken you made the tutorial i read about the arduino aldl cable, (just checked the link in op), if so can i get one of your aldl cables. I already ordered my arduino but would like to have a cable dedicated for my retta.

no arduino about it really.... just that the USB-TTL converter i use is marketed as such.

i've been selling them for $45/shipped with $5 of each cable going to the forum admins for a while. i wouldn't mind doing the same here.

that being said, i don't have any on-hand at the moment.

at the moment, i really couldn't say, could be anywhere up to a month due to some supplier issues.

Can someone chime in on what the difference of Bin Definition and Datastream Definition is please. Also is the location of the ECM behind the glovebox of a 1990 GTZ? And once located it should be stamped with a 1228707 or 1228708?

The bin definition decodes the the actual tune calibration from hexadecimal to English. The datastream definition does the same for the logging data to see what is going on while the car is running.

As far as location, the 91-93 have the computer behind the passenger kick panel speaker. Not sure about 90. But the ECM itself should have a sticker with the computer number and the 4-digit bin calibration code.

'90 Berettas the ECM is basically in the same area -maybe a little higher so more under the dash on the passenger-side. Unbolt the bracket holding it to the kick-panel 'bulkhead' and it drops down for access.
