Which LSD?
Which LSD?
I'm going to be swapping out the old 2.8 v6 in my 5 speed 89 gtu for a 3400/3500 hybrid soon, and I want to put power to the ground rather than doing one wheel peel burnouts when I hit the gas. lol Who has experience with running a limited slip differential? Are there any options other than engineered performance, team green, phantom grip, or quaife?
Re: Which LSD?
Plates with spring applying pressure (LSD) are only available that I am aware of. If you find a supplier for a quaife, pass along the detailed information.
I honestly would go with what is most important to you as far as money, time, and customer service reputation.
It should never come down to those as far as choice to importance, but with first hand experiences, it is what it is.
Personal choice for this paricular part directly related to L-Body,J-Body, N-Body plats:
Customer service reputation, then time, then money.

Re: Which LSD?
EP is really the only company out there who will build you one that will wear in a way that is rebuildable... Team Green and Phantom Grip work in the same way and will kill a differential when they slip, which is what they are designed to do, remember that, Its a "limited slip" not a locker.
As 1988GTU said, EP is a plate spring setup in the center with bronze clutches behind the spiders. The TG and PG are the same style Block and spring in the center but they do not swap out the factory steel shims for bronze ones... What happens when you sandwich a thin plate of steel between two steel surfaces? DESTRUCTION
And I like your order there 1988GTU... very appropriate for our application, no one makes anything that "works" and for "cheap" for a J, L or N body.

Re: Which LSD?
My experience with EP was always positive.
Jeff is a good guy, and tries to be responsive.
Great product and never let me down, and I beat the hell out of it, LOL!

Re: Which LSD?
The only other option is finding a second-hand Torsen which is nearly impossible.

Re: Which LSD?
I'm ready to send Torsen my diff to see if they can make one for me... They actually made one for GM Performance... They are listed at 1500... no clue if they are still around though.
Go F40 6 speed and you can get a WaveTrac differential.

Re: Which LSD?
I called EP yesterday, if I send him just the differential it will cost 599 plus an extra 100 to do the bearings. or I can send him a full trans he will do the LSD and replace all bearing inside the trans for 1200 but it will cost about 100 to ship it there and 100 back. obviously im not in a big hurry gotta get funds together first.

Re: Which LSD?
I don't think EP can do anything with your differential. When I sent him my original 89 one he wouldn't do it because it was the older, weaker design.

Re: Which LSD?
Ep all the way! I had a tg for a few hundred miles, 100% worthless.
Probably not a bad idea to upgrade to the newer diff. If i remember right it was an extra 150 or something like that (this was 7? Years ago). Not sure how much better they really are.

Spoke with Jeff on facebook.
You should be all set and not have any issues using what you have.Yes, I talked to her and I'm well-aware that she is requesting a LSD for the early Getrag. I have a small preload assy that uses the same springs. And I make the clutches to fit each gearset.

Not bad. This would've been before I got my Torsen which I purchased 9/13/05 so yeah, it's been a while.indygurl wrote:I told him the year of it. He said he could do it. How long ago was that?

Re: Which LSD?
Wow, a Wavetrac for the F40...sweet. I know Moser uses them in 9" rears because they are supposedly even stronger than the other helical diffs like the TruTrac.3X00-Modified wrote:I'm ready to send Torsen my diff to see if they can make one for me... Thanks Jon. Like said I talked to him. I hear a lot of good things about him. So I will be going with his LSD.
