for these cars space is already at a premium, but you are definitely right...not so much difference in dimensions to the L67

Jeff at EP is running a LS4 on his AWD van using the 4T65E with AWD transfer case... Honestly I'm not sure how much a beefed up 4t65e can handle, but I would think that would be the easiest trans to get in there.
It's also nice to see you haven't gone anywhere... This forum has been lonely....
