Rebuilding My '96 Beretta

Postby ethoward » Tue May 01, 2018 6:26 pm

I'm putting together my Excel sheet to see all I'll need with room for changes. Now I've got a 1996 Base Beretta with the 3100 sfi V6. I plan to swap over to the 3400 V6 (I want a re-manufactured engine and here's one https://www.jegs.com/i/ATK-Engines/059/DCW8/10002/-1). Now the swap guide says get an engine 2000+, now I'm thinking getting a 2004. This crate engine should work right? Another thing I want to reuse parts off the 3100 sfi on the 3400, but are there any parts that you guys would recommend replacing?

Other suggestions wanted;
What type of performance air intake would you guys say to put on?
Planning to replace the front struts, should I lower them a bit or raise them and what brands of struts?
Other things i should do for restoring my beretta?

I'm also curious what problems you guys ran into exactly when swapping engines.

If you are interested, there is also the option to do a 3500 v6 swap:

Stock height or lowered is up to you.
If you replace the front struts, sometimes you can find a Z26 in the scrap yard that might still have its factory springs in it. If you can find an FE3 front sway bar that can help with handling. Any aftermarket struts from the auto store if they have a spring will be based on the base model springs.

My personal experience with lowered springs was the car was always hitting the tires into the fenders over every little bump. So I returned my gtz back to factory. Some members suggested that I roll the fenders but I really didn't want to go bending the fenders like that.

96 Beretta Z26 swap (Daily Driver).
90 Beretta GTZ (Summer Only Daily,124k Miles, Mesa, AZ Proving Grounds Vehicle).
90 Beretta Indy (Garage Queen, Registered as a Historical Vehicle, 17,365 Miles, 100% Factory, Yellow, Digital Dash, Sun Roof)
