CORBRETTA is born!
The Beretta has been sitting as I decide what to
put in it engine wise. The Fiero guys are big inspiration with
the larger choice of engines but Northstars V8s are
expensive and cost more to replace. Fitting it in
the front to the stock manual is limiting. I really
want a V8. Looked at putting a rear differential in
the Beretta...independent or solid... C5 torque tube
setup is novel and within an inch of the Beretta wheel
base and width. It includes the front and rear
subframe as one piece housing the full suspension. Some cutting will be required
and adapters made to fit the Beretta chasis to the
Corvette bottom.
Here is what the running gear would look like:
http://norcal-cobras.com/GTM/gtm_build/ ... G_3173.jpg
If I am going to spend couple of thousand for a good boosted V6
setup good for about 300whp I am going to need
brakes...another couple of grand. The open differential with 260 wtrq is no fun when one of the wheels decides to hydroplan. For few grand more I could have the ultimate in chasis running gear as the slavaged C5 might be the ticket with all aluminum
subframe. I might even loose weight from the stock
2700 lbs. replacing steel subframe with aluminum. The rear trailing arm does weigh over 100 lbs. without wheels and the front subframe cradle has got to weigh in close to 700 lbs. wet as it was difficult to slide on the garage floor this past week. Lots of parts for sale! I
don't know if the Z06 for a few grand more would be
worth it since the I probably will not have to do
anything to the suspension and aftermarket bolt-ons
are plentyful for the 5.7 V8. Just cost and time as a constraint. But bookark this page for future updates.

Cool. At least you aren't just dumping the Beretta. I can't wait to see all of this in the works!

I traded. Now have a '05 GTO. So I love the torque of the '05 GTO and had to do something with the winter beater. Currently stripping the car and shopping for a donor.
I do about 20 trackdays a year and the GTO is tad on the heavy side which adds to the expensive of tires and brakes. The Beretta wet weighs almost 1,000 lbs. less and after I replace the steel subframe and control arms with the Vette aluminum stuff it might offset the added weight of V8 and 6-speed transmission.
With crank hp just over 400 it should put me in new Z06 territory!

While I am removing most of the electrical system and interior to make the tunnel bigger other interior parts "might" be retro fitted with the help of a local shop called DuraMend.

For once a groundbreaking project on here that might actually happen - I'm excited for you. Just don't lose your motivation, time and patience usually gets the best of people and this will definitely take a lot of both.

Not to go too off topic but I remember you had a Nordic Aero. I plan on doing something similiar, a stage 3 with supporting mods to about 250-270whp in my 2900lb Vig. How was the setup for you in the Aero?
I love your C5 plans. Most people here I would call it a pipe dream. But for you, i am excited because I know it isnt just talk.

I think Corvetta sounds better
Anyways, I say spend the extra $ and get the Z06 one intead of C5, just because you do so much track racing with it, however, if you plan on suspension upgrades anyways, I don't think it should matter.
Oh yeah, and there is a Guy with a W-Body GP that has done a similar setup, the RWD LS1 I believe, you may want to contact him on any info too on what he has done, you are deal with an even smaller engine bay than him, perhaps some help to?

Corvetta sounds good then my spanish comes back and makes me think of a girly Vette.   "Z06 EATR" would make a great license plate.
I removed or in the process of removing the car down to the skeleton.  So if you need something under the hood or interior, preferably red, let me know by the 2nd week of December or the trash man is going to have his hands full.  Make me an offer on something you need.

Check out SchramsAuto Parts in MI. They have all kinds of GM chassis C6, C5 vette stuff. I think they even have an XLR Chassis to use.
Oh they sell parts on ebay too.
