Miss matched parts will make you go slower if you change the cam, you need to match your cam to your turbo and all that jazz... I do have a hard time believing if you change the cam you will go slower. If done right it should not reduce performance, And yes I'm not arguing that you can't go REALLY fast with a stock cam, I would just find it to be way more efficient if you make the lift higher better matched duration and you can then lessen the boost PSI possibly saving strain on your engine.

Cam comparison for reference.

Buick GN 84-87 293°/296° adv, and 193°/197° @ .050 .400/.420 Lift
3100/3400/3500 256°/256° adv, and 195°/196° @ .050 .436/.436 Lift ICL 113 LSA 112

Ben also sells two boost cams, here are the specs
Street/Strip 265°/273° adv, and 216°/224° @ .050 .506/.506 Lift ICL 109 LSA 113
Race 274°/280° adv, and 224°/230° @ .050 .573/.576 Lift ICL 113 LSA 114

Now a supercharger cam on the other hand, the Race one is VERY mild in size comparison to the Boost cam, so with Ben's flow work and dyno tools he has; I'm sure he's looked into things to find the best setup.

Once again, not saying you can't make mad power with a stock cam, I just think your sacrificing efficiency or the necessity of a large turbo to reach the same numbers. I really feel with a different cam and a properly matched turbo you can produce the same power and obtain the same spool aspects.

A mid 8 sec Buick GN info, look at the cam specs...

Also I found a 9 sec GN on a forum, they were also running a 216/218 Comp Roller cam, so they are upgrading their cams to get to the 9's

Another, 9.90's

what about supercharged like with a centrifugal ( like a vortech?) do you need a better breathing cam?

Ben has cams for superchargers as well, they are not as radical as I noted above. They have higher lifts like the turbo cams but not as long of a duration. These are all desktop dyno simulations he's used testing them with certain configs, as I said on the FIRST page just buy Ben's cam selection service, tell him everything that is done to your engine and he will pick the best cam for that taking into consideration your goal for the vehicle, street/strip or race only and so on.
