Well it was only a matter of time. I HATE QUADS AGAIN!

Post by Asylum »

So I get invited to spend a couple of days at the cottage of my new "lady-friend" Rose up in Haliburton, and on Wednesday I head up in the Quad for a couple days of just goofing off.

All is well, car is magnificent, 75 mph, air on, 212 miles into a 235 mile trip and, well, it's a bloody Quad!

Temp gauge goes through the roof, oil pressure drops, and there is steam coming out from around the hood. WTF??? I mean it's a Quad. What the hell could possibly go wrong?

Get the hood open and, get this. The fan blades are gone, one of which is now embedded in the radiator.

Coolant every-friggin-where.

Turns out the fan motor seized distributing the blades randomly around the engine compartment.

Rad destroyed, oil pressure sender beheaded, lower hose slashed and Rose has never laughed so hard in her life at the absolute look of bewilderment on my face.

Call CAA (AAA) towed it to town and $676.00 later it was ready two days later minus a fan. They couldn't locate one. WTF?

Drove home fine without the fan and now it sits in the corner where it can bloody well stay for a while.

But it WAS a fun couple of days.

 It really is the minor tragedies in life that make us laugh the hardest, isn't it? I hate to say it, but you can't blame the fact that it is a Quad for this failure, although a V-6 might have gotten in the way of the exploding fan-blades rather than letting them rip through so many delicate parts -your radiator would have been toast either way though. I hope the car was put in the corner with a dunce-cap and without supper... "Bad car, bad!!" :D

No I blame the Quad.

This car has hated me since I kidnapped it from it's beloved California in 2006 and stranded it in a foriegn country where it has to go to jail for 6-8 months every year.

Well then, I'll go ahead and preempt the thirteen other members who want to say this, and mention that if you deccide you just hate the Quad too much, I'm still wanting a Quad Beretta for my collection...

I have to admit the biggest sigh of relief came when I started it up and that damn Oil Pressure gauge raced to 3/4 on a 79 degree day.

Drove home at 75 mph all day, never dropped below a wink over half!

Just love to read your posts! Must be the 'language'.

As for the Quad, glad to hear its healthy. You should actually hug it for being still fine. One of the biggest enemies of a Quad is overheating (following different scenarios).

Ya I really figured the little bugger would have puked the head gasket but it seems OK!!
Guess a lifetime of Mobil 1 and having had the headgaskets done under warranty back when it was under warranty keeps the bad stuff and history away.
This car runs soo friggen well it's scary.
But then it only has 68K on it and still has the original clutch
But thanx folks. It's OK and Rose thinks this whole FORUM thing is , well, WTF? LOL

Forum thing...Haha.

Your description sounds very much like my black 91Z: It is usually in prison (has been since 95 - I assume, it is used to it), it has only 60k km on it but its not a pearl color candy. However, it does have the original clutch and runs so great that im always scared of the Quad becoming moody. Actually, it runs so great that I can't sell it even though I don't need 2 summer cars but have no winter car....

damn quads... LOL At least your still enjoying the car even if it's being a bit of a pain every once and and a while... Hell my car is making a nasty sound at idle, and my fuel pressure is through the roof... haven't touched it since Bfest...

Since Ive bought my GTZ from a private owner, the fans are setup to run ALL THE TIME! Its annoying because im worried soon they too will sieze. But then again i know how the Quad loves the cool fan....LOL

So i have yet to do anything about it.
