Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
Been in a panel alignment mode working on the Camaro and realized last week the hood adjusters were dry rotted and broken. So I got a pair of new ones from Hawks Third-Gen parts and got it almost perfect. It appears that either the hood or the body is still somewhat tweaked though. Close enough.
Got about 99% of all the stuff done at my parents' new house now. Kinda pissed I didn't buy a place out of town...they really have a nice spot. I also just got a Windows tablet/laptop from the wife for my Bday so I loaded TunerPro and the HolleyEFI software on it. I love it already...works out great.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
So...I discovered recently that my POS Beretta was leaking water YET AGAIN! This time from the firewall seam where it meets the toe board and the inner fender. I used "3M Heavy Drip Chek" at the advice of a body man back in '09 it already shrunk & cracked. Which I guess will happen with almost all air-dry sealants. So this time I bought the best stuff there is...2-part "3M Heavy Bodied Seam Sealer" that mixes with a special gun. It was $52, but worth every penny if I don't have to do this crap again!
The GM engineering to funnel all the water from the cowl down the firewall into this spot is piss poor, and with my car there were actually no spot welds along a 3" or so section of this seam. And I would guess there is probably a slight amount of flex in that part of the unibody, compounding the problem. So I welded in a little strip of metal and sealed it with this 2k sealer. Checked it on the level and on the incline of my driveway and it's good to go now. I left the carpet out of it and I'm gonna drive it without a carpet for a while next spring just to be sure it's good before I put it all back together. Putting it up for the winter now and getting back to the hot rod project!

I used 3m firewall sealant I got from napa and haven't had any issues yet. I also sprayed it over with Rustoliums version of flex seal then lined the whole bay with spray bed liner.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
Yeah, I originally did 3M Drip Chek and then brushable seam sealer, and then primer and paint. This 2k stuff they say should outlast everything...impermeable to fluids and all that jazz. I wonder if part of my issue here was from the master cylinder leaking. I cleaned it all up, but brake fluid is bad for paint and probably sealer too. I wouldn't doubt if it had soaked in some what.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
Couple projects I've been working on lately. Ever since my leather seat install I've wanted to take change out my cloth reupholstered door panels and make some perforated leather ones. So I finally had the opportunity to buy some more factory black panels and take them apart. The perf leather is kind of a bitch to work with, but the end result looks pretty nice. The perf pattern matches the seats perfectly too!

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
The headliner was another project I wanted to redo. That old particle board had deteriorated further, and the fabric no longer matched the seats either. So I patched up the board, put down some new foam and did vinyl...and it looked horrible! Even worse than I started. So I ripped it off again and did trunk carpet type material to help hide imperfections. I also got some "oh crap" handles out of a couple Dodges at my brother-in-law's "junkyard" and put them in. haha They help hold up the headliner, and should be good for the autocross at Carlisle this week.

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
Last, but not least. This is a project that I've wanted to do for years, but we finally got the UV printer at work to do it. I made a new gauge panel out of clear and printed it. First try was horrible, way too much light shining through. So I tried .030" white stock machined down to .010 where the light passes through, similar to the gray panel I had done before. That sucked too. So, then I created a file to lay down white underbase and full CMYK twice for the opaque areas, and then 50% white underbase and the panel graphic design for the light to shine through. Came out pretty good. Even with a "mask" on the back to block hot spots like the OEM did there are still some light/dark areas - but I'm going to refine that on the next version. That and the background gray being too dark for the black gradient dials. But for now, I'm out of time before Carlisle. haha

How much for THAT dash faceplate?
Quad redline or no redline and/or Premium Fuel Graphic.
The one on the last post.
I have $100 USD burning a hole in my pocket Woody!
(And it's been a really rough week!)
Cheers

Re: Project 91 "SS" 3400/5spd
So, my cheap paint job from 2009 was showing its age. The sun had really yellowed the flat panels, and the hood was bubbling. So...I gave it a quick 2-tone respray. I wanted to do a 2-tone in 2009, but chickened out because I had never sprayed a car before...baby steps. haha
I photoshopped my plan, and decided to move the spoiler back 5/8" for better fitment. (That's what I get for being so perfectionist on the Camaro). So I picked up a deck lid in NC when I went down to see Boner and Geoff for the 4 Wide NHRA race.
