Re: 1996 Mr.Pink

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
Correct... Converter's are pretty much all I am really testing right now anyways... The ratchet sprags are nice but I don't know if they are necessary... They are guaranteed to never slip but I don't know if my current ones are.
Honestly besides the converter the only other things I could do is upgrade to a Torsen Diff if I can ever come to spending that much on one part, and find one... (near $1,800) and the only other thing I can think of is setting up a trans brake, but I feel doing that would just end up breaking axles more than me peddling the car off the line.

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
Well there are few more changes being done to finalize this thing one more time...
Changing to Metallic type 4th clutches, Paper ones keep getting burnt up, Not sure if it's from pressure loss or something else.
4t65e Input clutches to match the ratchet sprags... I didn't realize I needed to upgrade those to match the sprag but I guess I do.
LSD being freshened and preload increased.
3rd gear Sonnax billet aluminum apply piston.
Blocking 4th accumulator passage to increase 4th clutch pressure.
Future updates... After testing
4t65e 4th gear hub, and clutches if needed, which means I can finally use a 4t65e-HD output shaft!!! and not a 1 year 60e-hd output shaft which is hard to find!
I'm sure this list will grow as I learn more... Hell maybe I'll just say F-it and put a 4t65e-HD in it... lol

What was the past reasoning of going without this sooner?3X00-Modified wrote: Future updates... After testing

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
Did not know it was a potential option... Jeff from EP asked me when I showed him a picture of the clutches asking WTF is happeneing here if I was running the 65e hub and clutch pack... I responded with um no... didn't know it was an option. So I've purchased both the hub and clutches to see how it all measures up in comparison and if it's possible. He did a 4T-440 hybrid that way so the parts may or may not be the same, so it's something I'll have to math out.
Remember this is just the shaft that goes from the diff to the drivers side axle... it's not any bigger or stronger to my knowledge, it's just a change in how the end is supported by the 4th hub. Currently there is a hardened race in the 60e's 4th gear hub and there is a roll bearing/cage on the axle... Previous years were a bushing in the 4th hub and a smooth race on the axle. I think the 65e went back to that or the 4th hub itself has the roller bearing since the axle only appears to have a smooth race, no caged bearing. Basically it would just open up the market for replacement parts if I were to ever break it, and for $199 I could buy fancy custom made one from ZZPerformance if it's meant for the HD trans.

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
Looks like I could use the 4t65e-HD output shaft if it's the same length and spline count as what I have in conjunction with this seal on the drivers side
That would support the drivers side axle by the CV joint itself and not rely on the output shaft being supported by any other internal part. They have this to also prevent driver side axle seal leaks from free play of the CV moving or the shaft itself.

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
Talked with Jeff some more... seems like this wont work, Spline count and length are both different on the output shafts.. BUMMER!
Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
Any possibility in a T-Case for scavenging parts, or VersaTrak components?
Not sure the "interchangeability" of those to the dedicated fwd transverse transmissions.

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
I think it's all unique...I just need to get myself some 65e's to tear apart and compare stuff.

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
Beautifying stuff... lol
Random clutch packs that I was assembling at the time... Have the option for standard paper for the input or the Raybestos Sage 1 Reds... I'll give the reds a try it will match everything else I have. Removed the wavy spring plate to improve clamping force as well as added a 5th friction disc which improves the friction surface area by 25% of the existing.

Re: 1996 Mr.Pink
i would never install that transmission in my car, exterior is way too clean, the internals must be faulty.

You know I cleaned it and painted it simply because you said it was dirty right? At first I wasn't planning on re-painting it.

it actually looks good! i cant wait for you to come visit me, we will need 400 cans of brake clean and some industrial grey paint to do mine!
