Easy LED 3rd Brake Light Conversion

I bought some LED replacements for the halogen bulbs in the 3rd brake light. It cost about $15 with shipping.
The only thing I had to do was open the hole in the reflector where the bulb goes through so the LED will pass through.
The LEDs don't need positive and negative orientation since they can also operate on AC current.
I got them from superbrightleds.com as you can see in the photo.

Here they are illuminated with a 60 watt CFL bulb shown in the pic for comparison.

Interesting... Might be worth doing since most of these housings start to fail due to pedal on the brakes and the heat generated by those damn bulbs.

I got cut to length LED ribbon to do a tail light project in the Camaro that would also work. They also sell them in different lengths with +- leads on them.
