2.0 Turbo
2.0 Turbo
So after mulling over the idea for a LX9 swap for my Corsica with my manager, something he wasnt impressed by, he mentioned the Cobalt SS. I had completely forgotten about this little gem which i wanted so bad 10 years ago. So why not attempt a swap but im not sure if this is something that would work. I remember hearing rumors that the motor could bolt right in to the 3rd gen cavaliers with little modification but this is something i have yet to witness. So my question to you guys is what do you think of this and if you know or heard of anyone doing something like this.

Re: 2.0 Turbo
J body isnt the same as the L body. For all that work, you are better off 3500 swapping.

Re: 2.0 Turbo
There has been a 2.2 Ecotec swapped into a Beretta - so the 2.0 shouldn't be that much more difficult.

Yeah thats what ive been getting. Alot of people are saying just to boost that instead. But i also think it would be just as much work as a turbo 3500.1988GTU wrote:J body isnt the same as the L body. For all that work, you are better off 3500 swapping.
I was thinking the same thing but from what i can find no one has done a LNF swap so im not sure. Also the cobalt fourm is worthless.bonecrrusher wrote:There has been a 2.2 Ecotec swapped into a Beretta - so the 2.0 shouldn't be that much more difficult.

Re: 2.0 Turbo
Yikes! Thats a big number. I could probably do the 3500 turbo for that much, including the price of the LNF and trans.

Look on the interwebs - I'm sure some people have made their own harnesses.

Re: 2.0 Turbo
Are the Cobalt engine mounts the same as the Cavalier?
If you have a 94+ Beretta - then I think swap would almost be a bolt in.
If you have an older Beretta - then you would need custom mounts.
Assuming you go with the full drivetrain (engine/trans) - then the next thing you will need to figure out are the shift cables. Get them out of a Cobalt.
Wiring harness is still an issue - but if you strip enough things off of it all you should need are wires to the pump, and battery terminals and it should work. You would need to get it flashed to remove the anti-theft features it is probably looking for from the BCM.

Re: 2.0 Turbo
From the rumors are true then the mounts should be the same but i have no way of confirming. That seems like an easier and more cost efficient route.

Re: 2.0 Turbo
I found that there is someone who can flash the PCM to kill the VAT so that it will run under normal conditions which is about 400 bucks. Not terrible but the post is like 5 years old so Im not to certain about the availability of this. also how many mounts are in the Beretta/Corsica? The LNF from what I saw has 1 engine and 3 trans bolts. Im also not to terribly concerned about converting to a manual trans as I feel the automatic lends itself more as a sleeper which is what Im trying to do. Though I do think our cars automatically qualify due to there rare and often forgot about nature. Also what would be the latest year for a 3.5 that we could swap I see most people hang around somewhere between 00-07 but what about the newer bu's or is that also an electrical nightmare waiting to happen?
