Finally warmed up, cleaned up the GTU

Post by Baims_91Base »

It got up to nearly 70* today and I decided it was time to clean up the GTU...I didn't have any time over my spring break last week to do any actual cleaning, but was busy fixing/working on things for both cars.

First things first, I was at the junkyard not too long ago and picked up a shift knob from a newer Mazda6...it took a little bit of modding, but I got it to thread onto my Grand Am shifter arm...I just bought a Sunbird shifter arm, so it should sit about an inch lower. I'll know for sure when it gets here, thanks Luke.

Here's another picture of the console area (91+ window switch, leather knob, leather booth, relocated lighter well, and change tray below the radio (can also fit a popcan in there too )

I also headed up to Wisconsin earlier in the year and got a few things from Devon (nitrofish)...rear Fe7 springs (why the car sits slightly lower in the rear...FE3's are still up front), better condition GTZ seats than I had before, and some other small randoms...

Mmmm...look at those door panels. No, they aren't for sale. ;)

I also swapped in a newer style dome light (found in 92+ Berettas) and swapped in an overhead console from a Grand Am that had foglights so I have a switch for whatever I decide to put on it...I thought about wiring up the fan for track days, but not sure how much I'd actually use it. There's always the paperclip trick too...

Thanks to Styluss, my GTU feels like a GTU again...with C&C sticker that never came with the car when I bought it...I believe the trunklid on my car was repainted and they peeled the sticker off before doing so.

Ok, so my GTU isn't an 89...sue me. ;)

And finally, KFLO washed up his 99 Cavy Z24 Quadzilla today and we snapped some pictures. Here's how they turned out...

Kurt might've taken more, I only took limited angles since my camera battery was running low.

And here are some other randoms on the day/afternoon:

And my two new fav's...

All in all I think the car looks good for what it is...over 260,000 miles on the body and the car just turned 19 years old. Coming up in May I'll have had this car for 3 years and I've put so much work/time into it getting it to where it is today. It'd be nice to get a paintjob for it, but I'd rather start putting more money into my base again. The front lip needs to go back on too, I just need to get it fixed first.

Anywyas, let me know what you think...always glad to hear your comments.

Very nice That new shift knob looks sexy...What's the shift boot from?  That's nicer than the Grand Am boots (older ones anyway, not sure about newer GAs).

The shiftboot is one I bought from Wheelskins.com....universal fit, charcoal gray. I've been very happy with it.

I just need to do something about the boot for the e-brake arm and fix my seatbelt end so the cover doesn't keep popping off.

Thanks for the comments so far guys.

(berettagt5spd @ Mar. 30 2007,13:15)QUOTELooks great, Dustin.    What one is coming to Bfest this year?
Thanks!

Not sure yet...I'm hoping to get an internship this summer and still make Bfest, but the internship is going to take priority if I do get it and somehow can't make Bfest. At the very worst I'd make Saturday and Sunday...

It'll probably be the '91 though, but it loses a point since it no longer has working A/C... ;) Althought it hasn't been to a Bfest since '04 and the addition of the Z04 parts.
