TOB is fucked. So is the clutch fork shaft.

I think the pressure plate, flywheel & disc are ok, but I'm having trouble getting replacements for the TOB & fork ASAP. Looks like Tiffany's POS Subaru will be at Bfest this year.

I'd like to know how the hell I misaligned the TOB when installing the trans. I do not want to go through this again. My Camaro clutch had a little clip that held the TOB right on the pressure plate so it didnt move around. I like that idea better than these.

Wow, that clutch fork and throw-out bearing got owned. For some reason that bearing doesn't look right either. Maybe just because it's messed up.

It's just supposed to sit with the fork between the tabs on the bearing and ride on the intermediate shaft sleeve. That whole setup is one of the reasons I switched to the newer style on mine, even though I never had a problem like that, the fork always seemed to wear fast even after I put a brand new one in.

The isuzu trans does have a clip holding it on though.

Wow, that blows...

No one in the area has a trans?

Best of luck to finding something. I found my fuel issue.

FYI: the throwout bearing on these cars fits perfectly when installed backwards... just doesnt function too well. The little U-stamp on the ears is apparently just for strength and has nothing to do with holding the TOB on the fork. If I had actually thought about it I would have realized the spinning part of the TOB needs to be on the pressure plate.. DUH!

I ended up ordering a new pressure plate on the way down to Charlotte. It should be delivered back home probably tomorrow. The guy at SPEC said I wouldnt believe how many times he's gotten the same call about a backwards TOB.

Everything I ordered should be waiting for me when I get back home on the 29th. I just hope my dad is done dicking around with his Buick so I can get back in the garage and get it finished.

If you remember, the clutch disc has a sticker on it stating "FW SIDE". At least mine did.

It's too bad SPEC doesn't do that with the TOB also. I guess they figure it is inherently obvious.

Sometimes people get tired or in a hurry, so it would be a good item to flag them to make sure it is right...

So, I'm back home but it will be some time before I can get back to working on it. As noted, my crazy-ass father bought another project and the Buick is all torn apart in the garage. I have everything I need to assemble it, except for the fork. I ordered it on 6-15 and still dont have it, or even a tracking number. I called them and got someone who barely spoke any English after a 20min hold. Do not order from AutoPartsGiant.com. They're a bunch of d-bags as far as I can tell.

The Firebird looks to be a pretty good buy... even in a million pieces. The floor pans, rear quarters and door skins are brand new Goodmarks... they still have the stickers on the inside. The front fenders look to be good used GM ones with no rot (probably big money). The engine is probably seized by the looks, but who wants a POS 2-barrel anyway?

I hit the local JY and grabbed a 96 fan, so that will not be a problem any more. The headers rubbed off the paint on my 95 fan motor so I'm sure it wouldnt have been long before I had issues.

I also started working on the final interior stuff last week. I cut a big sunroof hole in my 95 headliner and got it ready for new fabric because the 91 one was screwed. The headliner material is the same foam-backed stuff as the black of my seats.

Since my dad was welding & grinding on the gay buick and throwing bondo dust everywhere I decided to work on scuffing my urethane pieces instead of getting all my nice clean interior stuff filthy. It takes forever to take off the rattle primer with 220 and I dont want to go any coarser with it. I only got the back bumper done, and even that isnt perfect yet because there is some primer left on the top ledge and right in the crease of the ground effect. Is there some kind of paint stripper I could use that would remove the primer but not the factory paint finish? The rear bumper looks 10x easier than the front one too. That could be a rotal PITA.

I attached a pic of the "CHEVROLET" insert on the back bumper too. It's in rough shape and should be replaced. Has anyone else done this? Any tips? I might just shave it with urethane filler and then have the option to add something if I want to.

I made a little "SS" emblem for the door panel like the old GT & GTZ ones. I think it will look decent when all is done. I also have a couple headliner progress shots from the other night.
